Job summary

Coherent Singapore Pte Ltd seeks an experienced manufacturing leader to head shopfloor operations across the defined product lines, ensuring output, quality, delivery, cost, safety and people objectives through strong leadership and disciplined execution.

You will drive operational excellence with Lean, Kaizen and 6S, coordinate with M&E, Quality, Supply Chain, and Program Management, and develop the production team through coaching and structured training to meet ramp-up and customer

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant manufacturing or production experience, with at least 5 years in a people management role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience managing shopfloor operations, production teams, supervisors or line leads in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of production planning, manpower deployment, manufacturing KPIs, quality systems, EHS requirements and continuous improvement practices.
  • Hands‑on, data‑driven and results‑oriented leader with the ability to engage shopfloor

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the shopfloor operations to meet production schedules, output, productivity, quality, delivery, cost and EHS targets.
  • Own daily manufacturing execution for the assigned product line, ensuring effective manpower planning, work prioritisation, line readiness and timely escalation of operational constraints.
  • Provide strong shopfloor leadership to supervisors, line leads and production teams, driving accountability, discipline, teamwork and a high-performance culture aligned with Coherent’s values and HR policies.
  • Partner closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, Equipment Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Planning and Program Management to resolve production issues and improve end-to-end workflow.
  • Drive operational excellence through Lean manufacturing, Kaizen, 6S, visual management, standard work and continuous improvement initiatives to improve yield, cycle time, productivity and customer delivery performance.
  • Monitor and review key shopfloor performance indicators, identify gaps, implement corrective actions and ensure timely communication of progress, risks and support needed.
  • Ensure effective implementation and compliance with approved SOPs, work instructions, quality requirements, cleanroom protocols, EHS procedures and customer-specific manufacturing requirements.
  • Support new product introduction, product transfer, production ramp-up and capacity planning activities for the assigned product line, ensuring readiness of production resources, training and shopfloor execution.
  • Develop the capability of the production team through structured training, coaching, skills assessment, succession planning and performance management.
  • Establish effective communication platforms for shift handover, production updates, feedback, issue resolution and cross-functional alignment.
  • Promote a safe, compliant and engaging work environment by reinforcing shopfloor discipline, good housekeeping, employee engagement and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the superior, within the employee’s capability, competency and employment

Job description

The incumbent is responsible for leading the overall shopfloor operations and manufacturing execution for the Cohrent product lines. This role ensures production output, quality, delivery, cost, safety, and people objectives are achieved through strong leadership, effective resource planning, cross-functional collaboration, and continuous improvement. The incumbent will also support product ramp-up, operational excellence, and customer delivery commitments while building a disciplined, capable, and engaged production team.

  • Technical skills and experience in the lasers industry, optics, photonics, electronics, precision assembly or cleanroom manufacturing will be preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead change, resolve operational issues, manage competing priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Strong leadership, coaching, communication, stakeholder management and problem‑solving skills.

  • Hands‑on, data‑driven and results‑oriented leader with the ability to engage shopfloor

  • Promote and sustain a strong safety culture across the shopfloor.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable EHS policies, procedures, cleanroom protocols, work instructions and regulatory requirements.

  • Lead by example in reinforcing safe work practices, proper use of personal protective equipment, good housekeeping and timely reporting of unsafe conditions or incidents.

  • Partner with EHS and cross-functional teams to support risk assessments, incident investigations, corrective actions and continuous safety improvement initiatives.
