Job summary

Goltens Singapore Pte. Ltd. seeks a Service Engineer to lead on-site marine engine projects, including inspection, installation, troubleshooting and overhaul of diesel engines and auxiliary equipment.

The candidate should hold a Diploma or higher in Marine or Mechanical Engineering with 3–5 years’ experience in the marine sector, possess a Seaman book, and be willing to travel and work onboard vessels as required.

Qualifications

• Diploma or higher in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline.
• Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience with Engine Makers or Marine Industry on new generation engines.
• Good knowledge of engine including slow, medium, high speed diesel and gas engine.
• Possesses Seaman book and has core knowledge and sailing experience on electronic controlled engines.
• Willingness to travel and work onboard vessels as required.

Responsibilities

• Set a positive example and supervise subordinates, ensuring safe and profitable execution of jobs.
• Inspect, install, repair, upgrade, troubleshoot and overhaul diesel engines and auxiliary equipment.
• Communicate with agents, ship owner reps, Class, Goltens and sub-contractors; arrange work permits.
• Provide timely job status updates and report technical issues to the Dept. Manager.
• Prepare risk assessments and checklists for assigned scopes; plan manpower, tools and schedule.
• Conduct daily toolbox meetings and coordinate with internal departments for on-time completion.
• Manage timesheets, daily reports and service documentation; maintain accuracy under supervision.
• Monitor and control job costs, track man-hours and material costs; issue MR and update job folders.
• Liaise with Customer and Sales for additional work scopes with proper paperwork.
• Prepare handwritten work completion reports with data, photos and templates; write formal investigation reports.

Job description

Key Responsibilities:

• As a Service Engineer must be a role model who set good example including managing and supervision the subordinates with the right and positive attitude towards work, customers, company and profitability of the job.
• Perform inspection, installation (incl. engine alignment), repair, upgrading, troubleshooting and overhaul of diesel engines and auxiliary equipment.
• Ability to communicate with agent/ship owner reps/Class/Goltens/sub-contractor including arrangement of work/entry permit through email and phone.
• Proactive in communication and accessibility to customers and Dept. Manager with timely reporting on, job status and technical issues.
• Preparation risk assessment and checklists for assigned job scope
• Preparation for job, scope not limited to technical information, work and manpower plan, schedule, tools and tackles. Daily tool box meetings with the team on commencement.
• Coordinate with internal depts. on allocated jobs for completion as per scope and schedule.
• Responsible for managing timesheets, daily reports, and all service-related documentation, ensuring accuracy and timely submission under the supervision of the Service Engineer.
• Control cost of the job by tracking man-hour and material and vendor costs, within budgeted. Timely issuance of MR's and the job folder updates on miscellaneous costs.
• Liaise internally with Customer and Sales with update to Dept. Manager for additional work scopes with proper paper work and approval.
• Able to prepare a hand-written work done, with data recorded as per format templates and service report with photos, upon completion of job.
• Able to prepare a formal investigation report with photographs as per Goltens Singapore format.
• Able to provide formal recommendation and repair proposals on breakdown or failure attendance. And corrective actions as required during work progress.
• Generate spare part list required for overhaul and repair
• Ensure all testing and monitoring equipment /instruments are identified and maintained in good order at all times
• Reading and interpreting drawings, manuals and code specifications
