Senior Web Developer / Web Development Lead

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Web Developer / Web Development Lead to take ownership of the development, technical quality, and performance of websites across our digital marketing projects.

You will lead the development of high-performing WordPress and Shopify websites, handle more complex technical requirements, and work closely with designers, project managers, marketers, SEO specialists, and other stakeholders to translate business and creative requirements into scalable web solutions.

Beyond hands‑on development, you will provide technical guidance to junior developers, review development standards, troubleshoot complex issues, and help strengthen the team’s overall development practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, maintenance, and enhancement of WordPress and Shopify websites for client and internal projects.

• Take technical ownership of projects from requirements gathering through development, testing, deployment, and post‑launch support.

• Develop and customize themes, templates, plugins, and website functionality beyond standard page builders.

• Assess technical requirements and recommend appropriate, scalable solutions.

• Build responsive, user‑friendly, SEO‑friendly, and maintainable websites.

• Integrate third‑party APIs, payment gateways, CRM systems, marketing platforms, Google Tag Manager, Meta Pixel, and other tools.

• Optimize websites for performance, Core Web Vitals, speed, security, scalability, and technical stability.

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex development, integration, compatibility, and performance issues.

• Conduct code reviews, testing, and quality checks before deployment.

• Establish and maintain development standards, documentation, Git workflows, and best practices.

• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to junior developers.

• Work closely with Project Managers to provide technical input on project scope, effort, timelines, and potential risks.

• Collaborate with designers, marketers, SEO specialists, and other stakeholders to ensure technical solutions meet project and business requirements.

• Identify opportunities to improve development workflows, tools, processes, and website architecture.

• Stay updated on emerging technologies, platform developments, security practices, and industry trends.

Who You Are

• Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Web Development, or a related field.

• Around 5–10 years of hands‑on web development experience, including strong exposure to WordPress and Shopify.

• Strong proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, PHP, Liquid, and MySQL.

• Strong experience in custom WordPress theme and plugin development.

• Strong experience with Shopify theme customization and development.

• Comfortable working beyond drag‑and‑drop builders and able to develop customized solutions where required.

• Good understanding of REST APIs, third‑party integrations, databases, hosting environments, DNS, and deployment processes.

• Experienced with Git and version control workflows.

• Strong understanding of responsive development, UX/UI principles, SEO, website accessibility, and web performance optimization.

• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving capabilities.

• Able to review other developers’ work and provide constructive technical guidance.

• Comfortable managing multiple projects and priorities in a fast‑paced agency environment.

• Strong communication skills and able to explain technical matters clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

• Demonstrates ownership, accountability, and good judgment when making technical decisions.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Shopify Plus and/or WooCommerce.

• Experience with headless CMS, headless commerce, or API‑driven architecture.

• Familiarity with React, Vue.js, Next.js, or TailwindCSS.

• Experience with CI/CD, automated deployment, testing, or DevOps workflows.

• Knowledge of web analytics, conversion rate optimization (CRO), marketing automation, and tracking implementation.

• Previous experience mentoring or guiding junior developers.

• Experience working in a digital agency or multi‑project client environment.
