Job summary

OCBC Group in Singapore seeks a Senior Teradata Database Administrator to manage and optimize our on‑premises Teradata data warehouse for high‑performance analytics.

You will partner with infrastructure, data engineers, and BI teams to ensure secure, available, and efficient data services aligned with business goals.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of on-premises Teradata production experience.
• Deep understanding of physical Teradata MPP architecture.
• Hands-on Linux/Unix server administration and shell scripting.
• Experience with Teradata tools for monitoring, tuning and analytics.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
• Nice to have Teradata Vantage or vendor certifications.

Responsibilities

• Hardware & Space Management: allocate Perm, Spool, Temp spaces; monitor data skew.
• Performance Tuning: use Viewpoint and Visual Explain to optimize SQL and stats collection.
• Workload Management: configure TASM rules to balance resources and workloads.
• Data Utilities: troubleshoot load scripts with BTEQ, FastLoad, MultiLoad, FastExport.
• Backup & On-Premises Recovery: implement DR with DSA and on-prem storage integration.
• Security & Auditing: manage user access, roles, and monitor DB2-like usage metrics.

What you do Role Overview* Core Purpose: Manages, secures, and optimizes our on-premises enterprise Teradata data warehouse platform to ensure high-performance data analytics.* Collaboration: Partners with infrastructure teams, data engineers, and BI analysts to maintain hardware efficiency and database uptime. Key Responsibilities* Hardware & Space Management: Allocates Perm, Spool, and Temp spaces across physical nodes; monitors and resolves data skewing across AMPs.* Performance Tuning: Uses Teradata Viewpoint and Visual Explain to optimize complex SQL queries and automates database statistics collection.* Workload Management: Configures TASM (Teradata Active System Management) rules to balance local server resources and prioritize critical business workloads.* Data Utilities: Troubleshoots infrastructure-level load scripts utilizing BTEQ, FastLoad, MultiLoad, and FastExport.* Backup & On-Premises Recovery: Implements disaster recovery and backup strategies via Data Stream Architecture (DSA) integrated with on-premises storage systems (e.g., NetBackup).* Security & Auditing: Manages user access, roles, and profiles, and monitors resource consumption using DBQL and ResUsage.# Who you are Required Qualifications* Experience: 10+ years of dedicated experience managing on-premises Teradata production environments.* Architecture Knowledge: Deep understanding of physical Teradata MPP architecture (Nodes, AMPs, Parsing Engines, BYNET).* Infrastructure & OS: Strong hands-on experience with physical storage, Linux/Unix server administration, and shell scripting.* Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
