Job summary

Seatrium Limited is seeking a Senior HSE engineer to design fire and safety systems for offshore modules and platforms. You will develop design philosophies, HSE plans, and safety specifications for active and passive protection systems and RAM analyses.

The role requires at least 6 years in process safety for oil and gas, with offshore project exposure and knowledge of industry codes. Hydrogen/ammonia facilities experience is a bonus.

Qualifications

• HSE engineering experience in oil and gas, with focus on process safety.
• Familiarity with codes like NFPA, EI15 and marine standards.
• Offshore project exposure (FPSO, FLNG, FSRU, platforms) preferred.
• Experience with hazard and risk analyses is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Designs fire and safety systems and prepares related documents and data sheets.
• Reviews safety studies and participates in risk analyses and safety workshops.
• Coordinates with other disciplines and clients to resolve safety issues.

Job description

Responsibilities

• Designs fire and safety systems for offshore oil and gas modules and platforms. Develops design safety philosophies, HSE plans, and specifications for active and passive fire protection systems, Human Factors Engineering (HFE), and related elements.
• Prepares and reviews engineering design documents, reports, and specifications for fire and safety systems, including design philosophies, equipment specifications and data sheets, safety equipment lists, material requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and firewater hydraulic and safety-related calculations.
• Designs active and passive fire protection systems and prepares Hazardous/H₂S Area Classification documentation, safety and firefighting layouts, escape route and life‑saving equipment layouts, and other safety‑related drawings.
• Coordinates and participates in risk analyses, safety specialist studies, workshops, and reporting. Interfaces and coordinates with other engineering disciplines and clients, taking the lead in resolving technical matters related to safety.
• Participates in process hazard reviews and analyses, including HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, FMEA, SIMOPS, and ALARP studies, and ensures timely close‑out of action items.
• Reviews third‑party safety studies, including FERA, dispersion analyses, EERA, ESSA, dropped object studies, and QRA studies.
• Evaluates and reviews Safety Critical Elements (SCE) performance standards, reliability and availability (RAM) analyses, and fire and gas detection mapping in accordance with project requirements.
• Supports procurement activities and, when required, functions as the package engineer for safety, firefighting, and life‑saving equipment.
• Provides health and environmental inputs to projects, including health risk assessments (chemical exposure, noise, lighting, ergonomics/Human Factors Engineering) and environmental impact assessments.

Requirements

• Holds a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university.
• Possesses a minimumof 6 years of HSE engineering experience in the oil and gas industry,specializing in process safety or technical safety, with preferably 1–3 yearsof experience on offshore projects (FPSO, FLNG, FSRU, or platforms). Experiencein hydrogen and ammonia‑based facilities is an added advantage.
• Demonstrates strongknowledge of oil and gas process facilities, as well as local and internationalprocess safety codes and standards (e.g., NFPA, EI15) and regulatory/marinecodes and standards (MODU, SOLAS, DNV, ABS, Lloyd’s Register).
• Keeps abreast ofindustry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements, includingIMO, NORSOK, API, UK HSE, and USCG standards.
• Good working knowledge of PIPENET Vision, Flaresim, and understanding ofother consequence modelling software such as DNV PHAST, etc., is preferred.
