Job summary

Illumina in Singapore is seeking a Sr. Staff Software Engineer to translate state-of-the-art statistical genetics methods into scalable, high-performance software.

You will collaborate with bioinformatics scientists, cloud infra engineers, and product managers to build a cloud-native data platform that handles billions of records and enables rapid, reproducible analyses. You will prototype quickly, iterate toward a releasable product, and contribute to architecture that balances performance,

Qualifications

• Degree in CS/Engineering/Bioinformatics/Math or related field.
• Experience designing large-scale data-analysis production software in the cloud (AWS, Azure, or GCP) with containerization, orchestration, CI/CD.
• Strong experience with data lake/lakehouse architectures (Iceberg/Delta Lake) and Parquet storage.
• Proficiency in Python for prototyping and tooling.
• Experience with distributed batch/workflow systems and modern workflow languages (Nextflow/WDL/CWL).

Responsibilities

• Turn advanced statistical genetics methods into high-performance, commercially releasable products.
• Design scalable analysis pipelines on a cloud-native lakehouse for millions of samples.
• Deliver APIs, web UI, and query interfaces for scientists to explore results at scale.
• Own operability and cost optimization across millions of concurrent jobs.
• Collaborate with bioinformatics, cloud infra, and product teams to align architecture with business strategy.
