Job summary

GovTech Singapore is seeking a skilled frontend engineer to help advance Singapore’s Smart Nation initiatives. You will contribute to large-scale SPA development using React 18+ and TypeScript, manage state with Redux, and ensure secure, scalable UI solutions for government digital services.

The role emphasizes designing robust features, collaborating across teams, and delivering high-quality user experiences with a focus on compliance and performance.

Qualifications

• Deep experience in React 18+ with TypeScript in large-scale SPA applications.
• Experience with Redux or equivalent state management.
• Experience with OIDC / OAuth 2.0 client-side flows.
• Experience migrating frameworks (e.g. AngularJS to React) using patterns like strangler or incremental rewrites.
• Experience in API integration patterns - REST consumption, caching strategies, error/loading state handling.

Responsibilities

• Write clear, unambiguous technical specifications for junior engineers and AI-tools.
• Design and deliver features spanning services or components with modularity, scalability, and resiliency.
• Incorporate security, compliance, and performance constraints from the outset.
• Author technical design documents for moderately complex features and conduct architecture reviews.
• Lead incident triage and debugging for production issues with root-cause analysis and preventive actions.

[What you will be working on]

The Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board designs and administers national examinations - PSLE, GCE N/O/A-Levels, and more, that shape the educational journey of hundreds of thousands of students every year. Trust, integrity, and precision are not aspirational values here; they are operational requirements.

The vision is to build a unified and adaptive digital ecosystem that seamlessly connects exam administration, electronic examinations and marking - enabling SEAB to leverage technology and innovation to deliver trusted, future-ready assessments with greater operational efficiency, resilience and smoother user experiences to meet Singapore's evolving assessment needs.

• Write clear, unambiguous technical specifications that serve as effective context for junior engineers and AI-tools
• Design and deliver features that span services or components, considering modularity, scalability, and resiliency
• Incorporate security, compliance, and performance as design constraints from the outset
• Author technical design documents for moderately complex features and conduct architecture reviews, providing actionable feedback
• Lead incident triage and debugging for production issues, drive post-incident reviews with concrete root cause analysis and preventive actions

[What we are looking for]

• Deep experience in React 18+ with TypeScript in large-scale SPA applications
• Deep experience with Redux or equivalent state management
• Experience in OIDC / OAuth 2.0 client-side flows - token handling, session management, CSRF protection
• Experience migrating frameworks (e.g. AngularJS to React) using patterns such as strangler or incremental rewrites
• Experience in API integration patterns - REST consumption, caching strategies, error/loading state handling

Good to Have

• Experience with AngularJS in production grade systems
• Experience in component library development and design-system based approaches
• Experience in E2E and component testing - Cypress/Playwright, React Testing Library
• Experience in Government / regulated industries - compliance-driven development, national identity system integrations
