Job summary

Motional seeks a Senior Software Engineer to join the Planning, Motion, and Controls team to develop simulation and analysis tools for faster autonomy stack development. You will build high-performance C++ tools and Python tooling, plus GUI debuggers and visualizers to analyze logged data.

Collaborating with planning and controls engineers, you will enhance simulation performance and reliability while addressing engineers’ pain points with robust software solutions for driverless technology.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in software development and testing, preferably in automotive or gaming.
• Strong proficiency in C++, with a focus on high-performance, resilient systems.
• Comfortable navigating large, complex codebases where modularity and documentation matter.
• Passionate about a driverless future and the safety-critical nature of autonomous software.

Responsibilities

• Develop core tools in C++ and Python to support autonomy software development.
• Create local or cloud-based runners to modify configs and re-run the autonomy stack.
• Build GUI debuggers and 2D/3D visualizers to inspect perception, planning, and decision logic.
• Collaborate with planning and controls engineers to capture requirements for simulation tools.
• Continuously optimize simulation and analysis tools for performance and functionality.
