Ethos Search Associates Pte Ltd is seeking a senior software engineer for a 1-year contract based in One North, Singapore. The role focuses on backend modules in Python, REST API design, migrations, and infra-as-code, with tests and code reviews required.

You will contribute to frontend tasks when needed and mentor junior developers, while maintaining high-quality documentation and runbooks for live systems. This position expects strong English communication and experience with cloud platforms.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building production software with real users and releases.
• Solid Python web framework experience.
• Design and build REST APIs with auth and error handling.
• Write and deploy schema migrations for live systems.
• Author infrastructure-as-code from scratch (AWS CDK, Terraform, CloudFormation).
• Experience with commercial cloud platforms.
• Branching and PR workflow experience.
• Experience reviewing others' code.
• Writing automated tests frequently.
• CI/CD pipelines and automation experience.
• Familiar with AI-assisted development tooling.
• Strong written technical English for documentation.

This will be a 1-year contract position based in One North.

Responsibilities include:

• backend feature modules implementation based on written specifications and acceptance criteria
• creation of REST API endpoints (validation, authorisation, and error handling)
• data model changes and write database migrations for live system deployment
• infrastructure-as-code authoring and maintenance
• unit and integration tests creation
• code review, both as author and reviewer
• technical documentation and operational runbooks
• frontend work where required
• day-to-day technical guidance and code review feedback to junior developers

Requirements:

• At least 5 years building and maintaining production software/applications and services with real users and regular release cycles
• Production experience with Python, building applications using a web framework
• Experience designing and building REST APIs (authentication, authorisation and error handling)
• Experience writing and deploying database schema migrations for live production systems
• Experience in authoring infrastructure-as-code from scratch (AWS CDK, Terraform, CloudFormation or equivalent)
• Experience with commercial cloud
• Experience working within a branching and pull request workflow
• Experience in reviewing others code
• Current and frequent writing of automated tests
• Able to build or maintain automated CI/CD pipelines
• Accustomed to AI-assisted development tooling as part of a normal workflow
• Strong written technical English for documentation

Advantageous to have:

• Familiarity with data cataloguing, metadata management or data governance tooling
• Experience in workflow orchestration experience
• Hands-on frontend development with a modern Java framework
• Delivery experience within a public sector environment
• Cloud certification(s)
