Job summary

Lumen Technologies is seeking an experienced Sales Engineer to lead the technical side of Alkira deals in a high-visibility, client-facing role. You will work with network architects and infrastructure directors, owning the pre-sales lifecycle from initial discussions through POC and ultimately to close.

You will collaborate with Account Managers, influence product roadmaps with customer feedback, and mentor with senior SEs as you grow in your career. Expect travel around 25% regionally.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in a customer-facing pre-sales engineering role.
• Strong networking fundamentals.
• Deep expertise in routing protocols and technologies (BGP, OSPF, static routing).
• Understanding of network virtualization and SDN, including VRFs, multi-tenant networks, and SD-WAN.
• Hands-on experience with IPsec VPNs and secure connectivity architectures.
• Experience in cloud connectivity across AWS, Azure, GCP.
• Experience in large-scale enterprise network design across data center/WAN/multi-cloud.
• Understanding of network services (DNS, DHCP, load balancing, traffic inspection).
• Able to troubleshoot live with customers across routing, security, and cloud domains.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Present and demo the Alkira platform to technical decision makers.
• Articulate Alkira value proposition with market/industry understanding.
• Collaborate with Account Managers to translate customer requirements into technical actions.
• Scope, run and win end-to-end Proof of Concepts with senior SE support.
• Assist with design and deployment following best practices.
• Provide feedback to Product Management from the customer's perspective.
• Contribute to the wider SE team by sharing learnings.
