Job summary

Rakuten Asia Pte. Ltd. in Singapore’s CBD is seeking an experienced QA Automation Engineer to design and automate test plans for backend and occasional frontend applications across diverse architectures.

You will architect automation frameworks, drive testing strategy, and collaborate with engineering and product teams to ensure comprehensive coverage while applying AI/agentic systems testing insights.

Qualifications

• 6 to 9 years of web application testing and automation experience.
• Proficient in Python or Java and strong OO concepts.
• Hands-on experience with test automation frameworks; Selenium or Cucumber is a plus.
• Experience with scripting languages Bash, Python, or JavaScript.
• Experience with at least one public cloud: GCP, AWS, or Azure.
• Understanding of AI and agentic systems testing approaches.

Responsibilities

• Write, extend, and maintain automated test plans and scripts.
• Design, execute, and automate tests for backend (and sometimes frontend) applications across a variety of architectures and cutting‑edge technologies.
• Architect automation frameworks, define automation strategies, and develop automated tests to validate use‑cases per product specifications and requirements, ensuring stability and ease of maintenance.
• Ensure comprehensive test coverage by working closely with engineering and product teams to prioritize testing execution and report on test execution progress and results.
• Participate in design and specification reviews, and use this information to design test plans.
• Assist cross‑functional teams in troubleshooting and problem identification.
• Champion QA best practices across the organization and contribute to continuous improvement of the QA process.
• Stay current with emerging technologies, particularly in the AI and agentic systems space, and apply this knowledge to testing strategies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 6 to 9 years of working experience in web application testing and automation.
• Solid programming fundamentals with strong object‑oriented concepts; proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Python or Java.
• Hands‑on experience with test automation frameworks; experience with Selenium or Cucumber is a plus.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or JavaScript.
• Hands‑on experience with at least one public cloud environment: GCP, AWS, or Azure.
• Exposure to API testing using tools such as Postman or equivalent.
• Understanding of AI and agentic systems, including familiarity with how AI workflows and autonomous agents are tested and validated.
• Good knowledge of networking and operating system concepts.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Strong understanding of QA practices, methodologies, and approaches.
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.
• Ability to write test plans and test strategy documents.
• Ability to understand functional and technical specifications and analyze data samples effectively.
