Job summary

Direct Search Global is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to oversee planning, coordination, and execution of shipbuilding projects in Malaysia. You will lead engineering activities, coordinate with clients and production teams, and ensure delivery on time, within budget, and to safety and quality standards.

The role requires at least 5 years in shipbuilding or offshore projects, a related bachelor's degree, and strong leadership and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a marine or related engineering field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in shipbuilding, offshore, marine, or EPC/EPCIC projects.
• Willingness to work full-time in Pasir Gudang, Malaysia.
• Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with project management software is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead shipbuilding/marine projects from award to completion.
• Monitor schedules, budgets, risks, and progress.

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Senior Project Engineer to manage the planning, coordination, and execution of shipbuilding projects. The successful candidate will oversee engineering activities, coordinate with clients and production teams, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with technical and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate shipbuilding, offshore, or marine engineering projects from award to completion.
• Monitor project schedules, budgets, risks, and progress to ensure successful project delivery.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities and resolve technical issues.
• Liaise with clients, classification societies, vendors, subcontractors, and internal departments.
• Support procurement, fabrication, testing, commissioning, and project handover.
• Ensure compliance with safety, quality, contractual, and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare project reports, manage documentation, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• At least 3-5 years of Project Engineering experience on OSVs, vessel or ship building.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in shipbuilding, offshore, marine engineering, or EPC/EPCIC projects.
• Strong knowledge of project management, engineering coordination, fabrication, and commissioning.
• Experience working with ship owners, shipyards, offshore operators, or classification societies is advantageous.
• Good communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with project management software is an advantage.
• Willingness to work full-time in Pasir Gudang, Johor, Malaysia.
