Qualifications

  • Minimum five years of direct procurement experience, preferably in product development or NPI environments.

Senior Procurement Manager – Product Development & Innovation

The Senior Procurement Manager, Product Development & Innovation is an execution-focused individual contributor responsible for delivering procurement activities throughout the product concept, design, development and New Product Introduction (NPI) phases.

Working within the strategies, governance and frameworks established by senior procurement leadership, the role ensures effective procurement execution, cost transparency, risk mitigation and timely delivery for assigned development projects.

This position does not have people-management responsibilities and focuses on operational ownership and cross-functional project execution.

Procurement Execution and NPI
  • Execute procurement activities across product concept, design, development and industrialisation phases.
  • Serve as the primary procurement representative for assigned development projects.
  • Ensure that procurement deliverables are completed in line with project milestones and stage gates.
  • Coordinate with R&D, Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality and Supply Chain stakeholders.
Early Supplier Involvement and Design Support
  • Support early supplier involvement through supplier identification, feasibility assessments and technical discussions.
  • Contribute sourcing and cost insights to Design-for-Sourcing and Design-to-Cost initiatives.
  • Provide Engineering and R&D teams with relevant supplier and market insights.
  • Identify potential supply, cost and capacity risks during the development process.
Cost Management and Value Engineering
  • Develop and maintain should-cost models and cost benchmarks.
  • Track Bill of Materials (BOM) costs against approved business-case targets.
  • Execute and support Value Analysis and Value Engineering initiatives during product development.
  • Identify opportunities for cost optimisation without compromising product quality or project requirements.
Project Execution and Time-to-Market
  • Execute prototype and sample-sourcing activities.
  • Monitor tooling fabrication, validation and supplier readiness.
  • Coordinate early-buy activities for long-lead-time components to support project timelines.
  • Escalate procurement risks that may affect cost, quality or delivery schedules.
Supply Chain Setup and Local Sourcing
  • Support the establishment and scalability of supply chains for new products.
  • Execute local and regional sourcing activities aligned with the manufacturing footprint.
  • Support sub-tier supplier visibility and logistics arrangements where required.
  • Assist in ensuring supply continuity and production readiness.
Supplier Management, Systems and Handover
  • Execute sourcing activities, including Requests for Quotation (RFQs), commercial evaluations, negotiations and contract implementation.
  • Maintain accurate and complete procurement information in ERP and sourcing systems.
  • Monitor supplier deliverables and follow up on agreed actions.
  • Support a smooth transition from NPI to serial production and operational procurement teams.
More about you
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain Management or a related discipline.
  • A master’s degree or relevant procurement or project-management certification, such as MCIPS or PMP, would be advantageous.
Professional Experience
  • At least five years of relevant experience in direct procurement, preferably within product development or NPI environments.
  • Hands-on experience managing sourcing activities, RFQs, commercial evaluations and supplier negotiations.
  • Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders in a global or multi-site organisation.
  • Experience in cost analysis, BOM cost tracking or should-cost methodologies.
  • Experience supporting the transition of new products into serial production would be advantageous.
  • Experience in the automotive, medical device, electronics, food-manufacturing or other complex manufacturing industries would be beneficial.
