We are seeking an experienced Protection & Control Engineer to design, verify and lead HVDC and protection system activities across interconnections, substations and integration projects.

You will mentor engineers and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to uphold world‑class grid reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with focus on protection & control.
• At least 8 years of proven experience in protection & control for transmission/distribution.
• Strong understanding of protection systems for HV networks and HVDC control.

Responsabilités

• Establish best practice protection and control for HVAC/HVDC interconnections.
• Review contractor submissions: protection philosophies, schematics and integration.
• Lead factory audits, SATs and commissioning for protection and control systems.
• Maintain models, settings, and documentation for protection schemes.
• Mentor engineers to develop HVDC protection competency within the team.

What You’ll

• Establish best practice protection and control systems for HVAC and HVDC interconnections
  • i) Design systems in compliance with regulations and grid codes
  • ii) Engage stakeholders’ acceptance and buy-in
  • iii) Lead technical clarifications and design risk reviews
• Review and verify contractor submissions, including but not limited to:
  • i) Overall system designs
  • ii) Protection philosophies
  • iii) Detailed schematics
  • iv) Communication system and integration
• Ensure compliance with technical standards, grid codes and project requirements across:
  • i) Grid-to-Grid and Plant-to-Grid interconnections
  • ii) Integration with Transmission & Distribution network, and Generation / Customer connections
• Oversee verification of:
  • i) Project specifications and contractors’ technical and engineering proposals including type of relays and equipment deployed
  • ii) Integration of interconnections with new substations, extensions, and equipment upgrades
  • iii) Communication infrastructure and systems
• Lead teams for:
  • i) Factory audits and acceptance testings
  • ii) Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for protection and control systems
  • iii) Protection and control testing, commissioning and operations for interconnection and transmission/distribution networks

3. Operations & Incident Management

• On call for standby duties for protection-related alarms and incidents
• Investigate, analyze, and report protection system failures or abnormalities
• Drive corrective and preventive actions
• Develop and maintain system protection philosophy, including but not limited to:
  • ii) Site-specific protection schemes / setup / design
• Ensure continuous update of models, settings, and documentation

5. Capability Development

• Conduct technical on-the-job training and briefings for:
  • i) Internal engineering teams
  • ii) External stakeholders and contractors
• Mentor and develop engineers to build core and best practice HVDC protection and control competency within the organization

What You’ll Need:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, specializing in protection and control with minimum 8 years of proven track record working in the related industry
• Strong understanding of Protection systems for transmission and distribution networks & HVDC control and protection systems (preferred)
• Experience with design review and engineering validation
• Experience with testing, commissioning, operation and maintenance of protection systems
• Familiarity with power system tools such as: PSCAD, DIgSILENT, PowerFactory, PSSE
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
• High attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams
