Job summary

Illumina in Singapore seeks a Staff Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the development of sequencing instrument platforms. You will design electro-mechanical and fluidic subsystems, translate requirements into specs, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure milestones are met.

The role requires a strong background in mechanical engineering, GD&T, FEA, and robust design for manufacturing, with experience in imaging, motion control, and thermal management.

Qualifications

• BS/MS/PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related field with >8 years industry experience.
• Experience in product development and transfer to manufacturing.
• Proven track record designing robust electro-mechanical systems including imaging, dynamic motion control, fluidics and thermal control.
• Knowledge of mechanical engineering design principles and practices—FEM, tolerance stack analysis, GD&T, drafting standards, DFM/DFM.

Responsibilities

• Uncover product requirements and translate them into subsystem specifications.
• Design precision electro-mechanical and fluidic mechanisms.
• Work in concurrent, cross-functional teams to meet milestones.
• Perform mechanical and thermal analysis of subsystem designs and verify results.
• Transfer new products into manufacturing and support issue resolution.
