Job summary

Foodmax in Singapore is seeking a Senior Meat Sourcing & Procurement Specialist to own the self-operated meat category. You will source directly from Singapore, Malaysia, China and other approved countries, building a competitive and resilient supply base to drive category sales and margin.

The role requires at least 8 years in meat procurement with strong supplier-management and negotiation skills, and the ability to work across cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, on-site environment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the sourcing strategy for meat across beef, pork, poultry, lamb and processed meat in chilled and frozen formats.
• Lead product selection, sourcing, price benchmarking, negotiation, PO management and payment terms for all meat SKUs.
• Develop supply from Singapore, Malaysia, China and other approved export origin countries; pursue direct sourcing where cost-effective.
• Maintain multiple suppliers and origins to ensure supply continuity and mitigate risks.
• Monitor meat market trends and coordinate with Sales, Warehouse, Operations and Finance on demand forecasts and replenishment.
• Mentor junior buyers and establish SOPs for meat procurement.

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Meat Sourcing & Procurement Specialist to own our self-operated meat category. You will buy directly from suppliers in Singapore, Malaysia, China and other meat-exporting countries approved to supply Singapore, and Foodmax will sell the products through its own channels. Your goal is to build a competitive, reliable and resilient meat supply base that drives category sales and margin.

Key Responsibilities

Category Strategy

• Develop and execute the sourcing strategy for meat, covering beef, pork, poultry, lamb and processed meat in both chilled and frozen formats.
• Define the category assortment, price tiers, core SKUs and country-of-origin mix. Own the category's sales, margin and profitability targets.

Procurement & Cost Management

• Lead product selection, sourcing, price benchmarking, negotiation, purchase orders, inbound and payment-term management for all meat SKUs.
• Reduce costs through annual or quarterly supply agreements, price locks and volume consolidation, while keeping quality and supply consistent.

Local & International Sourcing

• Use Singapore's network of importers, wholesalers, distributors, processors and cold-store operators.
• Develop supply from Malaysia, China and other meat-rich countries approved to export to Singapore, such as Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Argentina, the USA, Thailand and Europe.
• Pursue direct sourcing from origin where it makes sense, to cut out intermediaries and lower costs.

Supply Continuity

• Keep multiple suppliers and countries of origin for critical and high-volume SKUs, with backup suppliers in place to reduce dependency on any single source.
• Respond quickly to stock-outs, shortages or demand spikes by activating alternative suppliers, substitute products or different origins.
• Identify supply risks early, such as disease outbreaks, export restrictions, trade policy changes and logistics disruptions, and prepare contingency plans.

Supplier Management & Compliance

• Evaluate, negotiate with and onboard new suppliers. Assess price, quality, specifications, capacity, lead time, credentials and regulatory compliance, including SFA-accredited sources and establishments, import permits, health certificates and Halal certification.
• Set up supplier tiering and performance review frameworks to keep improving the supplier portfolio.

Market Intelligence & Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Monitor meat market trends in Singapore and in key origins, including pricing, seasonality, exchange rates and origin shifts, to inform buying and pricing decisions.
• Work closely with the Sales, Warehouse, Operations and Finance teams on demand forecasts, inventory and replenishment planning to minimise stock-outs, overstocking, expiry and wastage.
• Design cold-chain warehousing and distribution solutions for chilled and frozen products to protect quality and food safety.
• Mentor junior buyers and build standard operating procedures (SOPs) for meat procurement.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of hands-on experience in meat procurement or sourcing, including at least 3 years owning a category or managing key supplier relationships.
• An established meat supplier network in Singapore, such as importers, wholesalers, distributors, processors and cold-store operators.
• Sourcing connections in Malaysia, China or other meat-exporting countries, such as overseas plants, abattoirs, processors, exporters and traders, are highly preferred.
• Solid knowledge of Singapore meat import regulations and food safety requirements, including SFA accreditation, import permits, health certificates, cold-chain standards and Halal certification.
• A proven track record in urgent sourcing and in multi-source, multi-origin procurement.
• In-depth knowledge of meat specifications, cuts, grades, quality standards, shelf life, seasonality, pricing trends and supply risks.
• Familiar with end-to-end procurement processes, including supplier development, price negotiation, order management, payment terms and supplier performance management.
• Strong commercial and analytical skills, with proficiency in Excel or data analysis tools.
• Excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder-management skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive fresh food environment.
• Proficiency in Mandarin and/or Malay is an advantage, as the role works closely with suppliers in Malaysia and China.
