Job summary

Taylor Root is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to support operations and growth across Asia-Pacific. The role focuses on M&A, strategic transactions, upstream oil & gas contracting, regulatory matters and major commercial agreements.

You will work with senior stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions to enable commercial outcomes. The ideal candidate has 8+ years PQE and a strong background in energy or infrastructure, with experience spanning cross-border deals and regulatory environments

Qualifications

• 8+ years' PQE as a qualified lawyer in energy, resources or infrastructure.
• Strong experience in upstream oil & gas contracting and major commercial agreements.
• Significant exposure to cross-border M&A and transactional work.
• Experience handling regulatory matters across APAC jurisdictions.
• Hybrid of private practice and in-house experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support the legal aspects of M&A, acquisitions, divestments, JVs and strategic transactions.
• Draft and negotiate upstream oil & gas and major operational/commercial contracts.
• Collaborate with country regulators, government stakeholders, business partners and counterparties.
• Advise on legal and regulatory matters across multiple APAC jurisdictions.
• Support supply chain, procurement and vendor contracting in commercial settings.
• Provide practical legal advice across corporate, commercial, compliance and disputes matters.
• Partner closely with senior management and cross-functional teams.

We are partnering with an established upstream energy business to appoint a Senior Legal Counsel to support its operations and growth across Asia-Pacific. This is a broad, commercially focused role with significant exposure to M&A and strategic transactions, alongside upstream oil & gas contracting, regulatory matters and major commercial agreements. The position will work closely with senior business stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions.

What we are looking for:

• Experience working across multiple jurisdictions and with regulators
• Exposure to upstream petroleum arrangements and major development or operational contracts
• A combination of leading private practice and in-house experience would be advantageous
