Job summary

Oil & Gas Company with an international footprint is seeking a Head of Legal APAC to lead a lean regional team. The role is based in Singapore and will steward legal and corporate secretarial matters for APAC entities, partnering with senior management on strategic decisions.

You will provide commercial legal advice across trading activities (crude, refined products, LNG), manage risk, governance, and regulator engagement, and oversee external counsel.

Qualifications

• Qualified lawyer with at least 15 years post-qualification experience in commodities trading and/or Oil & Gas.
• Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to align legal priorities with business objectives.
• Strong stakeholder management, commercial acumen, governance and regulatory knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Lead the regional legal function in APAC, delivering strategic, commercial legal advice to management.
• Oversee contracts across crude, refined products, LNG and other energy trades.
• Manage corporate secretarial, Board matters, governance, and interactions with regulators and external counsel.

Job description

We are partnering with an established Oil & Gas Company that has an international presence and is active across trading a broad variety of oil products as well as clean energy. They are currently looking to hire a senior leadership hire for the legal function. As the Head of Legal APAC, this individual will be managing a small lean team and be responsible for both legal & corporate secretarial matters for the APAC entities.

Responsibilities

You will lead the regional legal function, providing strategic and commercial legal advice to management on major business decisions, legal risk, governance and regulatory matters. The role covers commercial contracts across crude, refined products, LNG etc. You will assist in negotiations, corporate secretarial and Board matters, litigation and dispute management and oversight of external counsel.

You will also lead and develop the legal team, work closely with business functions to align legal strategy with commercial objectives and engage with regulators, industry bodies and other external stakeholders.

Requirements

You should be a qualified lawyer with at least 15 years of post-qualification experience gained within the commodities trading and/or Oil & Gas sector. You should have prior leadership experience, coupled with strong legal judgement, commercial acumen and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to align legal priorities with broader business objectives.
