Job summary

HTX, the Home Team Science & Technology Agency, is seeking a Senior Forensic Scientist (Optics) to lead cutting-edge research in optics, photonics, imaging, and spectroscopy for forensic applications. The role involves designing and implementing new methodologies that push beyond traditional workflows and translating operational needs into deployable capabilities.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in physics, applied physics, engineering, or related discipline.
• Experience in optics, photonics, imaging, and/or spectroscopy with a strong theoretical understanding of optical physics.
• Hands-on experience with optics instrumentation and the design and characterization of optical systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead horizon scanning to identify new technologies and develop capabilities for HTX.
• Develop expertise in forensic physics, photonics, and imaging across domains.
• Spearhead research from concept to delivery including method development and validation.
• Support transition of R&D outputs into operational deployment and integration with digital systems.
• Mentor junior scientists and ensure adherence to quality, safety, data integrity and ethical research practices.
