Job summary

Sembcorp Utilities in Singapore seeks a driven professional to join the Power Portfolio & Strategy team. Qualifications

  • Up to 3 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience or exposure in energy, utilities, commodities, trading support, portfolio management or related fields is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Support integrated portfolio management and optimisation across thermal generation, renewables, battery, gas and retail portfolios.
  • Analyse portfolio exposures, pricing structures and cross-commodity opportunities across physical assets, contracts and financial derivatives.
  • Conduct pricing, sensitivity and scenario analyses, and maintain valuation models and commercial evaluation tools.
  • Support the execution and monitoring of hedging strategies across power, fuel, emissions, foreign exchange and other commodity exposures.
  • Analyse hedge positions, market exposures and portfolio impacts to protect margins and improve performance.
  • Support portfolio valuation and optimisation within approved risk limits and internal policies.

Purpose and Scope

We are looking for a driven and analytical individual to join the Power Portfolio & Strategy team. The successful candidate will support commercial decision-making and value creation across Sembcorp's integrated power portfolio, spanning thermal generation, renewable energy, battery storage, retail supply and commodity exposures.

The role focuses on portfolio optimisation, pricing, hedging, commercial structuring and market analysis to maximise portfolio performance and support business growth. The successful candidate will gain exposure to physical and financial energy markets and participate in cross-commodity optimisation across both physical positions and paper derivatives.

The role offers a unique opportunity to develop commercial acumen across the energy value chain, including generation, retail, renewables, commodity markets, portfolio risk management and structured commercial transactions.

Key Roles and Responsibilities
  • Support integrated portfolio management and optimisation across thermal generation, renewables, battery, gas and retail portfolios.
  • Analyse portfolio exposures, pricing structures and cross-commodity opportunities across physical assets, contracts and financial derivatives.
  • Conduct pricing, sensitivity and scenario analyses, and maintain valuation models and commercial evaluation tools.
  • Support the execution and monitoring of hedging strategies across power, fuel, emissions, foreign exchange and other commodity exposures.
  • Analyse hedge positions, market exposures and portfolio impacts to protect margins, stabilise earnings and improve portfolio performance.
  • Support portfolio valuation and optimisation within approved risk limits and internal policies.
3. Commercial Structuring & Deal Support
  • Support the structuring and evaluation of PPAs, gas supply agreements, REC transactions, green energy contracts and other commercial arrangements.
  • Prepare pricing models, sensitivity analyses, commercial evaluations, deal summaries and management papers.
  • Coordinate due diligence, stakeholder inputs, internal approvals and transaction documentation.
  • Monitor energy and commodity market fundamentals, supply-demand dynamics, pricing trends and key market indicators.
  • Conduct competitor, fundamental and technical analyses to identify commercial opportunities and emerging trends.
  • Develop market views and actionable insights to support pricing, hedging, portfolio and strategic decisions.
5. Data, Systems & Decision Support
  • Maintain and enhance analytical tools and dashboards using Excel, Power BI, ETRM and other approved digital solutions.
  • Analyse large datasets and ensure data quality and consistency across pricing, valuation and commercial evaluations.
  • Prepare concise management materials and leverage data analytics and approved AI tools to improve insights and decision support.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Energy Management or a related discipline.
  • Up to 3 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience or exposure in energy, utilities, commodities, trading support, portfolio management, commercial analysis or related fields is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate market dynamics, commercial opportunities and portfolio impacts.
  • Strong commercial aptitude and interest in portfolio management, pricing, hedging, deal structuring and commodity markets.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel, with the ability to build financial models and analyse large datasets; exposure to Power BI, ETRM, SQL, Python, VBA or other analytical tools is advantageous.
  • Ability to interpret complex market, portfolio and commercial information and translate analysis into clear, actionable business insights.
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate commercial analysis clearly to management and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Commercially minded, intellectually curious and adaptable, with the ability to learn quickly and work effectively in a dynamic, market-driven environment.
  • Self-motivated, resourceful and accountable, with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Digital and AI literacy, with the ability to use approved generative AI, data analytics and visualisation tools responsibly while exercising commercial judgement and complying with validation, confidentiality and data governance requirements.
  • Knowledge of power markets, commodity markets, hedging instruments or energy products is advantageous.
