Job summary

Grab is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to shape data movement from source to decision and build scalable pipelines. You will own end-to-end data flows, from source systems to dashboards, working with product, analytics, and business teams.

The role requires designing and operating ETL/streaming pipelines and collaborating with engineers on migrations to ensure data quality and SLA adherence. This onsite position supports teams in multiple regions.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience building production data pipelines at scale.
• Strong hands-on Python and SQL skills with data warehousing knowledge.
• Knowledge of PySpark, Presto, and Airflow for data engineering tasks.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.

• Leverage large volumes of data from internal sources across the business.
• Develop, maintain, and support production data pipelines (ETL, streaming, batch) using Python and SQL.
• Act as the engineering point of contact for business stakeholders, gathering and assessing data needs.
• Ensure data architecture meets reporting requirements, including SLA commitments.
• Suggest ways to deliver quality data more efficiently and add value.
• Run multiple concurrent pipeline projects and migrations from scoping through delivery.
• Collaborate with backend engineers during migrations to ensure no data loss or SLA breach.

We industrialize data feeds, build and run ETL pipelines, and maintain the data warehouse layers that turn raw operational data into insight — in direct contact with product, business, and analytics stakeholders who depend on us daily.

Get to Know the Role

As a Senior Data Engineer, you'll shape how we get data from source to decision. You'll build and industrialize data pipelines across our layered data architecture, be the engineering point of contact for business needs, and help decide which technologies best serve the data our stakeholders depend on — reporting, dashboards, product analytics, and downstream data science use cases.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• You will leverage large volumes of data from internal sources across the business
• You will develop, maintain, and support production data pipelines (ETL, streaming, batch) using Python and SQL
• You will act as the engineering point of contact for business stakeholders, gathering and assessing their data needs
• You will ensure data architecture meets business and reporting requirements, including SLA commitments
• You will recommend ways to deliver quality data more efficiently and identify opportunities to add value
• You will run multiple concurrent pipeline projects and migrations from scoping through delivery
• You will work closely with backend engineers on source-system migrations — re-pointing and validating data pipelines during active platform cutovers — to ensure no data loss or SLA breach

What Essential Skills You Will Need

• 4+ years of experience in data engineering, building and operating production data pipelines at scale
• Strong hands-on Python and SQL skills
• Knowledge of Big Data technologies such as PySpark, Presto, and Airflow
• Solid understanding of ETL and layered data warehousing patterns
• Fluency in written and spoken English
• Ability to analyze, synthesize, and simplify complex data problems for varied audiences
• Demonstrated ability to work directly with business stakeholders to scope and deliver data solutions
• Strong communication skills — able to explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders (analysts, product managers, business leads)
• Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple concurrent projects, meeting deadlines without compromising data quality
• Comfortable working cross-functionally with backend/platform engineers to trace data lineage through service migrations
