Job summary

ClickHouse is expanding its Cloud Scaling team to build and operate a cloud-native database platform on public clouds. You will work on a Kubernetes operator, enhance the metrics pipeline, and collaborate with core developers to support infrastructure use cases.

The role requires 5+ years in distributed systems, production Go/C++/Java experience, and strong cloud/IaaS knowledge. Remote-friendly environment across multiple regions with a focus on reliability and performance.

• On-call experience and strong debugging in production.
• Experience with a public cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and IaaS.
• Experience with data storage, ingestion, and transformation (Spark, Kafka or similar).
• Strong communication skills across engineering teams.

About the team

The Cloud Scaling team is dedicated to implementing robust capabilities within the ClickHouse cloud environment. We seek exceptional software engineers to develop and maintain the infrastructure to transform ClickHouse into a fully functional serverless database solution. Collaborating closely with the core database team, we are actively working on evolving ClickHouse into a cloud-native database system. Additionally, we engage with other cloud teams to drive continuous improvements in cloud infrastructure for enhanced performance and scalability.

What will you do?

• Build a cutting-edge cloud-native database platform on top of the public cloud.
• Work on our in-house Kubernetes operator to support seamless infrastructure management.
• Improve the metrics pipeline and build systems to generate better statistics and recommendations.
• Work closely with our ClickHouse core development team and other data plane teams, partnering with them to support infrastructure use cases as well as other internal infrastructure improvements.
• Architecting and building a robust, scalable, and highly available distributed infrastructure

About you:

• 5+ years of relevant software development industry experience building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed systems.
• Production experience with programming languages like Go, C++ or Java
• You are not a stranger to PagerDuty On-call, debugging things in production and are a strong problem-solver
• Expertise with a public cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their infrastructure as a service offering (e.g., EC2).
• Experience with Data Storage, Ingestion, and Transformation (Spark, Kafka or similar tools).
• You are passionate about solving data problems at Scale.
• Experience working with distributed systems
• You have excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within and across engineering teams.
