Job summary

James Cook University Singapore is seeking a Research Assistant/Senior Research Assistant to join the Tropical Future Institution team. The role provides technical support for aquaculture research projects, including nutrition and aquatic animal health, on a full-time contract to 31 October 2028.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in aquaculture, biology, marine science, or related field.
• Experience in aquatic animal husbandry or aquaculture research.
• Experience with standard lab techniques, sampling and water-quality monitoring.
• Good organisation, record-keeping and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently within multidisciplinary research teams.
• Comfortable working on weekends for project activities.
• Experience with RAS, aquaculture nutrition and feeding trials.
• Experience in field sampling and data management.
• Experience in aquatic animal health and tissue sampling.

Responsibilities

• Support research staff in the practical implementation of aquaculture research projects.
• Manage aquaculture and feeding trials, including fish husbandry, feeding, water-quality monitoring and sample collection.
• Conduct field sampling at commercial aquaculture farms.
• Support aquatic animal health activities, including fish health monitoring, disease investigation and biological sampling.
• Ensure accurate record keeping and maintain data and sample integrity.
• Maintain aquatic facilities and experimental animals in accordance with animal ethics and biosecurity requirements.
• Collect, process and store fish tissue, water and other biological samples.
• Work collaboratively with project teams, research collaborators and industry partners.
• Maintain project consumables, chemicals and equipment.
