Job summary

Dyson Singapore is seeking a Senior Applied Control Systems Engineer to join the MDAC team. You will develop and maintain real-time embedded software for Dyson Digital Motors, contribute to automated test systems, and document design and implementation details.

Ideal candidates have a strong background in bare-metal MCU software, real-time embedded C, and cross-team collaboration, with clear progress reporting and robust documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or numerate discipline.
• Minimum 3 years’ professional experience in embedded/real-time systems.
• Proven bare-metal MCU software development experience.
• Strong real-time embedded C programming with MCU peripherals knowledge.
• Experience with source control and CI workflows.
• Ability to plan, estimate and track development tasks.
• Strong communication, facilitating cross-team collaboration.
• Clear progress reporting and high-quality documentation.

Responsibilities

SWHWPS is a global RDD function that designs and develops Dyson’s internal technologies that enable most of our products. The team has experts in wide range of areas such as electromagnetic, mechanical, electrical, control algorithm, software, and project management.

Motor Drives and Advanced Control (MDAC) within SWHWPS is responsible for the motor control, electromagnetic design, system control, EOL production solution, software, and verifications. Our team works from early development through to the production of our designs.

About the role

Dyson offers a unique opportunity for talented individuals to join its Research, Design and Development (RDD) function in Singapore as part of MDAC team as Senior Applied Control Systems Engineer. We are expanding our embedded software team and are seeking an individual to join us. You must be fluent in the C programming language and be equally comfortable with high‑level design and abstraction as with implementation, testing and debugging of code. You will be working as part of larger project team and some of your tasks could include:

• Develop and maintain real time embedded software for our world‑leading Dyson Digital Motors and other advanced control systems.
• Develop software for test systems to enable automated production testing including motor production line tune and test and power electronics hardware test.
• Document software requirements, design, and implementation.
• Be responsible for embedded software aspects of failure analysis: completing root cause analysis of any failures of the motor or associated drive and control system at both product and motor level.
• Facilitate meetings e.g. stand-ups, planning, and retrospective.
• Communicate with internal/external stakeholders and manage product backlog by prioritization.

Working alongside engineers, scientists, and technical experts across a broad range of disciplines, you’ll be comfortable learning from others but also sharing your own knowledge, ideas and opinions. About you

Essential skills:

• Degree in engineering or numerate discipline or equivalent industry experience.
• At least 3 years professional experience in a relevant industry.
• Experience in bare‑metal microcontroller software development.
• Strong background in real time embedded C, with strong knowledge of MCU peripherals.
• Software configuration management (source control, continuous integration).
• Ability to plan and estimate development tasks.
• Strong communication and able to form a bridge between multiple teams.
• Be able to clearly report progress in meetings together with producing a high standard of documentation.

Desirable skills:

• Experience of Python programming.
• Experience with software verification strategies including unit testing.
• Knowledge of control systems.
• Knowledge of hardware development.
