Job summary

ember grey is seeking a Senior Agricultural Commodities Trader to lead the Singapore operation, developing agricultural trading across Asia with a blend of physical origination and derivatives trading. Job description

A well-established international commodity trading business is looking to appoint a Senior Agricultural Commodities Trader to join its Singapore operation and further develop its agricultural trading activities across Asia.

This is a senior commercial hire for an experienced trader with a strong background across both physical agricultural commodities and derivatives, combining physical origination and supply-chain knowledge with active futures, options and risk-management experience.

The successful individual will have a demonstrable track record of originating physical business, managing trading positions and using derivatives to optimise risk, capture market opportunities and generate sustainable P&L.

The Role

The successful candidate will take responsibility for developing and managing an agricultural commodities trading portfolio across Asia-Pacific, combining physical trading with derivatives and structured risk management.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Originate, structure and execute physical agricultural commodity trades across Asian and international markets.
• Trade and manage futures, options and other commodity derivatives alongside the physical book.
• Develop and manage relationships with producers, exporters, importers, processors, feed manufacturers and other end-users.
• Identify physical and financial trading opportunities across outright price, basis, spreads, arbitrage and geographical flows.
• Manage the full physical trade lifecycle from origination and negotiation through execution, logistics and settlement.
• Take ownership of trading positions, risk exposure and associated P&L.
• Use futures, options and other hedging instruments to manage price, basis and spread risk across the physical portfolio.
• Analyse regional and global supply-and-demand fundamentals, futures curves, basis markets, freight and market structure.
• Identify relative-value and arbitrage opportunities between physical and derivative markets.
• Structure transactions to optimise trading margins while appropriately managing market, counterparty, credit and operational risk.
• Work closely with operations, risk, finance and logistics teams to ensure efficient execution.
• Expand the company's customer, supplier and trading-counterparty network across Asia.
• Contribute to the strategic development of the wider agricultural commodities trading platform.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for an established agricultural commodities trader with:

• Significant experience across both physical agricultural commodity trading and commodity derivatives.
• A proven track record of managing a trading book and generating profitable P&L.
• Hands-on experience trading futures and options, with a strong understanding of hedging, spreads, basis risk and market structure.
• Strong commercial relationships across Asia-Pacific and/or international agricultural markets.
• Experience across commodities such as grains, oilseeds, vegetable oils, feed ingredients, pulses or other agricultural products.
• Strong understanding of physical commodity flows, logistics, freight and supply-chain economics.
• Ability to connect physical market fundamentals with futures and derivative market opportunities.
• Demonstrable ability to originate new physical business and independently develop trading relationships.
• Strong understanding of trading risk, including outright price, basis, spread, liquidity and counterparty exposure.
• Strong commercial, analytical and negotiation skills.
• An entrepreneurial approach and the ability to operate effectively within an international trading environment.
• Existing experience within Singapore or the broader Asian agricultural commodity markets would be highly advantageous.
