Job summary

Hilleman Laboratories is seeking an Scientist to support preclinical and translational studies for vaccines and biologics, spanning discovery through early development. The role emphasizes in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo evaluation, assay development and cross-functional collaboration with CROs and academic partners.

Candidates should have hands-on mouse study experience, RCULAC certification, and cell culture proficiency, with strong data interpretation and documentation practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Biology, Microbiology, Immunology, Cell Biology or a related discipline, with animal research experience.
  • Hands-on experience with mouse studies, a valid RCULAC certificate, and cell culture experience are required.
  • Experience performing in vitro assays, serological analyses and cell-based assays to evaluate immune responses to vaccination is preferred.
  • Ability to independently execute experimental approaches with minimal supervision and sound scientific judgement.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional environment, with strong ownership, independence and collaboration skills.
  • Highly motivated, organized and meticulous, with a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates scientific integrity, good documentation practices, effective interpersonal communication skills and a commitment to ethical research conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design, development and execution of preclinical and translational studies for vaccines and biologics.
  • Evaluate novel vaccine and immunotherapy candidates using in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo approaches.
  • Contribute to the execution, analysis and interpretation of pharmacology studies, with particular emphasis on in vivo studies.
  • Support the development, qualification and routine performance of functional assays for preclinical and analytical development activities.
  • Implement functional assays to characterize clinical and preclinical vaccine candidates, including immunological endpoint assessments.
  • Assist in the identification and validation of new targets for vaccine or therapeutic intervention, contributing to the overall research strategy.
  • Support daily laboratory operations, equipment maintenance, inventory management and documentation in accordance with applicable procedures.
  • Work closely with preclinical CROs, academic collaborators and cross-functional teams to conduct in vivo studies, develop assays, evaluate immunological endpoints and critically interpret results.
  • Apply scientific literature, technical expertise and relevant regulatory requirements to support research planning and study execution.
  • Interpret, troubleshoot, analyse and report complex scientific data in a clear and timely manner.
  • Assist in the preparation of study protocols, technical reports, data summaries and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to research reports, regulatory-supporting documents and manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Job description

The incumbent will support the preclinical team in the evaluation and characterization of novel vaccines and biologics, contributing to the discovery and development of target antigens and therapeutic candidates for the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases. The Scientist will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to advance the Hilleman Laboratories pipeline.

Research activities will span the vaccine development pathway, from early-stage discovery and preclinical evaluation through support of late-stage development activities, including in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo characterization, assay development, and validation of clinical samples from human trials.
