The System Design Engineer (SDE) is a key technical role within the Digital Energy Technical and Solutions team. The SDE works closely with the System Architect, Tendering Team, and the Application Centre to develop competitive, compliant, and well-engineered solutions for project bids.
This role ensures technical clarity, accurate scope definition, and the production of high-quality design deliverables needed for tender submission and internal technical governance.
This role will be part of the Schneider Early Career Program (SECP), a one-year program designed for high-potential professionals with 3–5 years of experience. Participants will accelerate their growth via structured development, stretch assignments, and mentorship from leaders across the organization.
What will you do?
Requirements Definition & Solution Scoping
- Work with the System Architect to understand customer needs, tender specifications, and technical requirements.
- Interpret RFP/RFQ documents to define the Project System of Requirements (SoR).
- Produce clear scope demarcation between Schneider scope and Vendor/3rd‑party scope
Technical Analysis & System Design
- Conduct detailed technical analysis to translate requirements into feasible and cost-effective system designs.
- Develop the overall solution architecture, including hardware design principles, network topology, and integration strategy.
- Validate that the proposed solution adheres to internal standards, best practices, and compliance requirements.
System Integration & Interfaces
- Produce a comprehensive System Integration Matrix covering all subsystems and their data exchange requirements.
- Coordinate with Subject Matter Experts to define, validate, and finalize integration logic, protocols, and interface specifications.
Bills of Quantity (BoQ) & Costing Support
- Derive accurate BoQ (internal goods) aligned with the tender’s scope and system architecture.
- Ensure alignment between design intent, material quantities, and costing assumptions for Tendering.
- Support cost optimization with the System Architect to ensure competitiveness.
Tender Deliverables & Documentation
- Own and produce all major technical deliverables for tender submission, including:
- System technical proposal
- Architecture diagrams (network, solution, integration)
- System Integration Matrix
- Technical design narratives & compliance statements
- Any design documents required for internal technical governance or design review
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Engage with SMEs, tendering engineers, and project application engineers to gather technical inputs and validate design decisions.
- Participate in internal technical reviews, risk assessments, and compliance evaluation sessions.
- Ensure that engineering assumptions are clearly documented and communicated.
Technical Governance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure alignment with Schneider Electric solution standards, cybersecurity baselines, and design guidelines.
- Continuously refine design processes to accelerate solution preparation and tender responsiveness.
- Maintain design quality through self-checks, peer reviews, and adherence to engineering processes.
What are the key skills we are looking for?
Education & Experience
- Degree: Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation & Control Engineering or related Degree
- Experience: 3-5 years of working experience in system integration, building and power systems design, facility management, energy management. Familiarity with modular design and cost estimation process. Knowledge of system architecture methodologies is a bonus
Technical Skills
- Ability to interpret M&E drawings, IO lists, control logic, and system specifications
- Familiarity with solution costing, BoQ development
- Strong documentation, communication, and technical writing skills
- Analytical thinking and structured problem solving
Soft Skills
- Innovative and has strong passion for Building or Power and Energy Management solutions
- Pro‑active and self‑motivated team player
- Detail‑oriented with focus on accuracy and quality
