Job description

ERI@N has multiple Interdisciplinary Research Programmes which focus on translational Research, Development & Deployment which focus on a specific area of the energy value chain and a number of Living labs and Testbeds which facilitate large-scale technology deployment enabling validation and demonstration of real-world applications. As a Research Engineer II at ERI@N, you will be at the forefront of our microgrid technology and clean energy solution development efforts, responsible for designing, testing, power and energy management systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Power Converters driven green energy systems design, modelling, analysing the inertia impact on the next-gen transmission and distribution grid network
  • Expertise in EMT & RMS Modelling tools such as PSCAD, DigiSilent PowerFactory, Siemens PSS-E, ETAP
  • Configure and Conduct hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the loop (SIL) platforms using OPAL-RT / RTDS solutions.
  • MW-scale Grid converter modelling approaches, grid code compliance workflow dedicated to Grid-following / Grid-forming functionalities and use cases: Dynamic Stability and Steady-state analysis,
  • Performance validation tools and studies linked to Transients (faults, LVRT, RoCoF), Harmonics / switching effects, Control dynamics and droop characteristics, Frequency events and inertia emulation. Reactive Power Capability, Power Quality Study, Parameter harmonization and model export strategies
  • Be a hands-on technologist in the R&D projects linked to control, optimization algorithms/tools to plan the deployment of DERs such as energy storage systems (ESS), photovoltaic generations (PV) in view of the advanced utility grid operations, ancillary services, and the potential future changes in distribution network.
  • Familiar with Grid codes and standards IEEE 2030, IEEE 1547, UL 1741, ENTSO-E / NC RfG, EN 50549 UL 1741 & UL 9540 (PCS-ESS) IEC 61850, 62443, etc.
  • Engage the industry research collaborators in the guided development of the project milestones, deliverables and technical reports.
Job Requirements
  • Ph.D. degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, specialized in Power Converters / Power & Energy Systems / Renewable Energy Integration & Control / Grid Management
  • At least 2 years of professional experience with a strong focus on power and energy systems modelling, HIL/SIL tools control systems validation and analysis.
  • EMT & RMS Modelling tools : PSCAD, DigiSilent PowerFactory, Siemens PSS-E * Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) & Software-in-the-loop Platforms: OPAL-RT/RTDS solutions.
  • Mathematical modelling of the system-level and device-level constraints of distribution networks with DERs, and applications of stochastic programming/approximate dynamic programming approach.
  • Expertise in data analysis for clustering and classification
  • Knowledge in visualization tools for data presentation
  • Communication skills, and the ability to present clearly and concisely
