Job summary

Nanyang Technological University Singapore is seeking a Research Fellow in Civil Infrastructure Monitoring using Distributed Sensing to advance scalable monitoring of bridges, tunnels, railroads, and roadways. The role focuses on DAS on telecom fiber networks and mobile sensing, with multi-modal data fusion and system identification through lab and field work.

Qualifications

• PhD in Civil/Structural Engineering or related field (or closely related engineering discipline).
• Strong research record in distributed fiber-optic sensing, SHM, or infrastructure monitoring.
• Experience with DAS or distributed sensing technologies and data processing is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in Python, C++, or Julia; plus Git-based workflows and AI/ML for science is a plus.
• Hands-on structural testing or field experimentation experience is advantageous.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills for publishing and collaborating with partners.

Responsibilities

• Develop algorithms for guided-wave analysis, response analysis, sensor fusion, and system identification.
• Design and execute lab-scale experiments to validate distributed sensing methods.
• Plan field deployments on bridges, railroads, and roadways using DAS and mobile sensing.
• Build data pipelines for DAS and mobile sensing datasets including QC and feature extraction.
• Integrate distributed sensing with other modalities for diagnostics and monitoring.
• Prepare journal papers, conference talks, and reports with PI and collaborators.
• Mentor graduate students and contribute to collaborative research.
