• PhD in a social science discipline (communication, psychology, sociology or related).
• Strong foundation in experimental research and design.

• Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary, multicultural teams.

Job description

The Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (WKWSCI), together with the Earth Observatory of Singapore, is looking for a Research Fellow to make an important contribution to the research project: “Climate Transformation Program (CTP): Cross Cutting Theme 1 – Sustainable Societies” funded by the MOE Tier 3C Grant. CTP aims to develop, inspire, and accelerate knowledge-based solutions and educate future leaders to establish the stable climate and environment necessary for resilient, just, and sustainable Southeast Asian societies.

CTP will generate knowledge and innovation across disciplines including climate and Earth science, ecology, materials science, artificial intelligence, humanities, social sciences and the arts, finance, health, and engineering. It will also translate state-of-the-art scientific results into real world solutions for Singapore, and it will transfer these solutions to Southeast Asia (SEA) and beyond.

As part of this programme, “Cross-cutting theme 1: Sustainable Societies”, this theme will leverage climate research in communication, public opinion and psychology, and artistic impressions to shape public attitudes and behaviours towards climate change issues. The Research Fellow will work directly with the PI of the Sustainable Societies theme, Professor Shirley Ho, based in the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information at NTU.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conducting literature reviews and supporting theory development
• Designing immersive VR experiences for research purposes
• Engage with external vendors to develop VR experiences
• Designing and conducting experimental studies
• Performing statistical analyses of experimental data (e.g., SPSS, R, or Mplus)
• Contributing to peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations

Job Requirements:

• A PhD degree in communication, psychology, sociology, or a related social science discipline.
• Strong foundation in experimental research
• Demonstrated or hands-on experience in VR development or immersive media research
• Proficiency in statistical tools (e.g., SPSS, R, or Mplus)
• A strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals and conferences
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary, multicultural team
• Strong initiative, communication skills, and research ownership
• Experience collaborating with external vendors to translate research designs into functional systems
