National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Engineer (Solid State Batteries) within the College of Design and Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering unit. The project focuses on long-life solid-state batteries using intelligent composites with active interfaces and scalable synthesis.
The role includes advanced structural/electrochemical characterisation, optimisation of cathode composites, and integration of sensors for high-performance pouch cell batteries.
Job Title: Research Engineer (Solid State Batteries)
University-Level Unit: College of Design and Engineering
Faculty/Department-Level Unit: Materials Science and Engineering
Employee Category: Research Staff
Location_ONB: Kent Ridge Campus
Posting Start Date: 21/07/2026
We are looking for a highly talented and motivated candidate to design and realise Long-life Solid-State Batteries by intelligent composites with active interfaces. This ongoing collaborative project will run until June 2029.
The focus is on designing composites of nanostructured inorganic solid electrolytes with polymers that retain the high conductivity of the materials, allow for low-cost thin film preparation and yield stable interfaces with electrode materials to achieve solid-state batteries with enhanced rate performance and capacity retention.
Key tasks for the Research Engineer in this project will be to cooperate with team members for an effective scalable synthesis, advanced structural and electrochemical characterisation, optimisation of cathode composites and their interfaces with the electrolyte, and integration of functionally intelligent sensors and actuators for achieving high performance solid state pouch cell batteries with long cycle life.
The position will be open from 1 September 2026 initially for two years with optional extension.
