Job summary

ISCE2, a team within A*STAR, seeks a Research Engineer to develop next-generation sustainable biomanufacturing technologies. You will conduct molecular biology experiments, express proteins in bacterial systems, and design experiments aligned with project scope.

The role involves applying automation and computation to experiments, supporting biocatalyst characterization, and presenting results at meetings with literature reviews. Strong teamwork and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • BSc or MSc degree with laboratory experience in relevant fields.
  • Hands-on experience with microbial culture preferred.
  • Experience with bioreactors is advantageous.
  • Hands-on experience with molecular cloning and bioanalytical techniques such as PCR, Gel electrophoresis, LC-MS, etc.
  • Team player who is self-motivated and enjoys applied research in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Strong problem-solving, data analysis, and meticulous documentation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, documentation and organization skills.
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities and multitask.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct experiments related to molecular biology, including design and cloning.
  • Perform protein expression in bacterial systems, including molecular cloning, fermentation in bioreactors/shake flasks, and protein separation and immunoassays.
  • Design, plan, and execute experiments based on proposed project scope.
  • Be comfortable with the use of technology (i.e. automation and computation) to aid experiments.
  • Support screening, biocatalysts characterization, and hits validation efforts.
  • Analyze data, interpret results, and troubleshoot.
  • Presentation at regular project meetings and summarizing results in reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of scientific communications; publications, figures, and posters.
  • Perform general lab housekeeping.
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager.

ISCE2 is seeking a talented Research Engineer to be part of a young, dynamic, multi-disciplinary team to develop next-generation sustainable technology for the biomanufacturing of fine and specialty chemicals. This position offers an opportunity to develop new enzymes for streamlined manufacturing of complex molecules. The ideal candidate is passionate about science and sustainability, self-motivated, organised, detail-oriented, enjoys laboratory work, and has excellent communication and teamwork skills. The successful candidate may be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Conduct experiments related to molecular biology, including molecular design and cloning
  • Perform protein expression in bacterial systems, including molecular cloning, fermentation in bioreactors/shake flasks, and protein separation and immunoassays
  • Design, plan, and execute experiments based on proposed project scope

Requirements
  • BSc or Master's degree with some laboratory experience, preferably in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, or Biological Engineering.
  • Preferred hands-on experience with microbial culture.

  • Preferred hands-on experience with molecular cloning and bioanalytical techniques, such as PCR, Gel electrophoresis, LC-MS, etc.
