Job summary

• 0–2 years of relevant experience; strong project or internship experience welcome.
• Willingness to work in an exploratory, research-adjacent environment with evolving requirements.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills; interest in educational tech is a plus.

Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for the position of AI Engineer in the Centre for Holistic Inquiry into Lifelong Learning (CHILL).

The AI Engineer will work within the SPARK Research Programme, which converts Continuing Education and Training (CET) course content into short, narrative microlearning modules. A key focus of the role is helping develop and iterate on AI generation pipeline in-house and evaluate generative AI capabilities for educational content and learning experiences, explore suitable open-source and open-weight models, and integrate selected approaches into reliable application workflows.

The AI Engineer will contribute more broadly to the team's applied AI features and research support activities, including prototyping new SPARK App features, supporting evaluation studies with data instrumentation, and collaborating with instructor-facing and student-facing interface teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Good understanding of Python and general software engineering fundamentals; familiarity with Node.js/TypeScript is a plus
• Hands-on exposure to open-source or open-weight machine learning models (e.g. LLMs, reinforcement learning models, text-to-speech), whether through coursework, personal projects, or internships.
• Interest in at least one area of generative AI relevant to language, visual, speech, or multimodal applications.
• Experience integrating machine learning models or generative AI into applications, APIs, or automated pipelines is a plus, though not required.
• 0-2 years of relevant experience; Candidates with no experience but with strong project or internship experience are encouraged to apply.
• Willingness to work in an exploratory, research-adjacent environment where requirements evolve alongside study design.
• Good documentation habits and the ability to communicate technical trade-offs clearly to researchers, faculty collaborators, and other non-engineering stakeholders.
• Interest in educational technology or learning science is a plus, though not required
