Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate/Research Fellow to join our advanced sensors research team at NTU MAE. The successful candidate will support multidisciplinary research activities in biomechanics, robotics, and advanced materials within the laboratory.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the team with comprehensive literature reviews on injury biomechanics, physiological effects, computational modelling and related research topics.
  • Develop, implement and validate computational simulation models for impact and injury prediction using appropriate numerical methods and software tools.
  • Design and conduct experimental studies using instrumented human manikins and other test platforms to evaluate biomechanical responses and validate simulation results.
  • Assist in the design, fabrication, and characterization of tissue simulants and non-Newtonian materials, including support for 3D printing and additive manufacturing processes.
  • Develop and optimise experimental setups, testing protocols and data acquisition systems for biomechanical and robotics‑related research.
  • Analyse experimental and simulation data, prepare technical reports and document research findings.
  • Support the integration of advanced materials and sensing technologies into robotics and other interdisciplinary research initiatives.
  • Inline sensor system developmental work for 3D printing of non‑Newtonian materials, optimisation of hardware configurations to maintain a food‑grade environment, and development of testing protocols and validation procedures.
  • Collaborate with faculty members, researchers, students and external partners to achieve project objectives and milestones.
  • Assist in the preparation of research publications, presentations, grant reports and project deliverables.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with laboratory safety procedures and research best practices.
  • Liaise with external vendors on custom sensors and related mechanical system development, manage technical specifications and acceptance testing, coordinate technical discussions with collaborators and project stakeholders, and track project milestones, risks and technical deliverables.
Requirements
  • PhD or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics or a related discipline.
  • Knowledge of multi‑physics modelling for non‑Newtonian materials.
  • Experience with 3D printing technologies, sensors, system integration, experimental testing or measurement systems will be advantageous.
  • Familiarity with signal processing and analysis, control systems, Python, MATLAB, C++, LabVIEW or equivalent tools is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, communication and project coordination skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
