Duke-NUS Medical School is seeking a motivated Research Assistant to support cardiovascular and metabolic research. The role involves mouse colony management, molecular biology and cell culture work, as well as documenting results and contributing to publications.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative, interdisciplinary Office of Research team at the Outram Campus, with opportunities to contribute to translational studies and clinical research in metabolic disorders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Life Sciences or related field.
  • Experience in molecular biology, cell culture and rodent handling.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to work in a team.
  • Open-minded, energetic and capable of interdisciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks and support all aspects of the research project.
  • Support general mouse colony maintenance and assist with molecular biology and cell culture experiments.
  • Document and report experimental results accurately.
  • Contribute to project management, presentations and publications.
  • Assist with lab upkeep, safety protocols and ongoing research procedures.
  • Carry out other related duties as needed.

Job Description

The Signature Research Programme in Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disorders (“CVMD”) houses state-of-the-art technologies for basic studies and translation research on metabolic adaptations in cells, rodent models, and human patients, and undertakes translational and clinical research in cardiovascular and metabolic disorders.

The Adaptive Metabolism Laboratory, headed by Dr Anand Sharma, is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant with experience in mouse colony management, animal handling, and general laboratory operations. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing research programme and contribute to a collaborative and dynamic research environment at Duke-NUS.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform tasks and support all aspects of the research project.
  • Support general mouse colony maintenance and assist with molecular biology and cell culture experiments.
  • Conduct accurate monitoring, documenting and reporting of experimental results and/or research findings.
  • Contribute to project management, presentations and publications of research work.
  • Assist with general upkeep of laboratory needs, maintain safety protocols, provide technical support and establish work procedures to ongoing research projects.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described therein.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Life Science, Biomedical Sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Knowledge of the scientific background relevant to the research area.
  • Experience and interest in molecular biology, cell culture, rodent handling and metabolic studies.
  • Possess strong interpersonal communications skills with excellent written, oral communication and computer skills.
  • A strong team player who is open-minded, energetic, highly motivated and can work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team and diverse workforce.
