Job summary

Southern Ridges Capital is a multi‑billion‑dollar global macro hedge fund focused on fixed income, currencies, commodities and equities trading. As a Research Analyst, you will work with the investment team on data-driven insights to inform real-time decisions.

You will develop macro models, monitor central bank communications, and translate views into actionable trade ideas across asset classes while building market commentary and relationships with external researchers.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Economics or related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (Econometrics, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Operational research) will be considered.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or R; familiarity with statistical/econometric concepts.
  • Experience in macroeconomic research or financial-market research is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain macro models covering GDP, inflation, current account dynamics, and monetary policy across G10 and EM economies.
  • Monitor central bank communications to forecast policy trajectories and rate differentials.
  • Track real-time economic data releases and assess deviations from consensus.
  • Translate macro views into trade recommendations across rates, FX, equities.
  • Prepare daily/weekly market commentary synthesizing macro developments and positioning data.
  • Monitor global capital flows and investor sentiment indicators.
  • Build and maintain relationships with sell-side economists and macro researchers.

What You’ll Do

As a Research Analyst, you’ll work closely with our investment team to develop insights and tools that directly support real-time investment decisions. This is a hands‑on, learning‑intensive role ideal for someone curious about financial markets and passionate about applying data‑driven methods to solve complex problems.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and maintain proprietary macro models covering GDP, inflation, current account dynamics, and monetary policy across G10 and EM economies
  • Monitor and synthesize central bank communications (Fed, ECB, BOJ, RBI, BOK, PBoC) to forecast policy trajectories and rate differentials
  • Track real‑time economic data releases with a focus on deviations from consensus and second‑order market implications
  • Translate macro views into specific trade recommendations across rates, FX, equities
  • Prepare daily/weekly market commentary synthesizing macro developments, central bank signaling, and positioning data
  • Monitor global capital flows, speculative positioning (COT, prime brokerage data), and investor sentiment indicators
  • Build and maintain relationships with sell‑side economists, central bank watchers, and independent macro researchers

Who We’re Looking For
Technical Skills
  • Master’s degree or PhD in Economics or a related field.
  • Exceptional candidates with a bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Econometrics, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Operational research will also be considered.
  • Relevant experience in macroeconomic research, economic strategy, policy analysis, or financial‑market research is preferred.
  • Proficient in Python and/or R
  • Familiarity with statistical and econometric concepts
Helpful Experience
  • Exposure to macroeconomic or financial data tools like Bloomberg, CEIC, Haver, or Macrobond
  • Interest in financial markets and macroeconomic trends
  • Understanding of options, derivatives, or econometrics
