Job summary

PUB, The National Water Agency is hiring an Assistant Engineer for Drainage Operations. You will participate in flood operations, inspections, and handling feedback to protect the public during heavy rain events.

The role requires a Diploma in Civil/Structural/Environmental Engineering and shift work (including weekends). Driving licence (Class 3) is required; outdoor work in varying weather is common.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Civil/Structural/Environmental Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience in operations and maintenance of drainage networks preferred.
• Able to perform shift work including weekends (shift hours 0600-1530 or 1000-1930).
• Possess a valid Class 3 driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Carry out flood operations and deployments in rotating shifts to keep the public safe.
• Conduct routine inspection/surveillance of drainage systems for offences or unauthorised access.
• Attend to and investigate drainage feedback along public drains and waterways.
• Handle and manage customer feedback on drainage matters.
• Carry out handover inspections for new PUB or external drainage projects.
• Respond to and investigate drainage incidents and pollution events.
• Perform routine inspections of drainage networks in flood-prone areas.
• Supervise contract administration and site inspections of contractor works.

What the role is:

As an Assistant Engineer for the Drainage Operations, your main roles and responsibilities include, but not limited, to the following:

What you will be working on:

• Carry out flood operations/deployments in a rotating shift system to keep public out of harm’s way during any heavy rain events
• Conduct routine inspection/surveillance along drainage system for enforceable offences such as fishing, unauthorised entry into waterways etc
• Attend to/investigate drainage related feedbacks along public drains and waterways
• Attend and manage customer feedback pertaining to drainage matters
• Carry out handing over inspections for newly completed drainage projects by PUB or external developers
• Response and investigate drainage incident/crisis such as water pollutions
• Carry out routine inspections of drainage network system within flood sensitive areas
• Supervise contract administration and manage the contractors, including site inspection of the contractor’s work

What we are looking for:

• Diploma in Civil/Structural/Environmental Engineering or equivalent
• Candidates with relevant experience in operations and maintenance of the drainage network are preferred
• Able to perform shift work including weekends (shift hours: 0600-1530hrs; 1000-1930 hrs)
• Comfortable to work outdoors and under rainy conditions
• Problem solver with positive attitude, resourceful and proactive
• Able to work independently and in a team effectively
• Possess a valid Class 3 driving licence
