Job summary

Goltens Toei Singapore Pte Ltd is seeking an experienced electrical/instrumentation professional to support surveys, commissioning and retrofit projects on vessels. You will analyze loads, coordinate protection and integrate upgraded power systems, while troubleshooting shipboard automation and control systems.

The role requires hands-on experience with marine electrical systems, familiarity with safety/PTW practices, and the ability to work across disciplines in a dynamic shipyard environment.

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Electrical / Instrumentation / Automation Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in marine or offshore EIA / E&I roles.
  • Hands-on experience with shipboard electrical and automation systems.

Responsibilities

  • Attend vessels for surveys, inspections, installation support, commissioning and troubleshooting of electrical, automation and instrumentation systems.
  • Support marine electrical retrofit projects, including load analysis, protection coordination and system integration.
  • Perform troubleshooting of shipboard control, monitoring and alarm systems (PLC-based).
  • Collaborate with mechanical, piping and shipyard teams for retrofit projects.
  • Support EHS and risk assessments, PTW systems and safety compliance.

Job description

Department: Green Technology
Reporting to: Senior Manager – Green Technology

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Attend vessels for surveys, inspections, installation support, commissioning and troubleshooting of electrical, automation and instrumentation systems.
  • Support marine electrical retrofit projects, including:
  • Electrical load analysis and load balancing
  • Protection coordination and breaker selectivity studies
  • Integration of upgraded or modified power systems
  • Perform troubleshooting of shipboard control, monitoring and alarm systems, including PLC based systems.
  • Supports project related to energy efficiency and emission reduction, including:
  • Power Management System (PMS) interfacing and optimization
  • Energy monitoring, data acquisition and alarm management systems
  • Participate in electrification / hybrid ready projects, such as: UPS and battery system interfaces and monitoring and alarm integration (no battery design responsibility)
  • Coordinate effectively with other disciplines (mechanical, piping, shipyard teams) with interface awareness.
  • Support project execution through proper documentation, reporting and communication with managers, superintendents and vessel crew.
  • Support class and survey activities with societies such as DNV, ABS, LR, CCS, BV or ClassNK.
  • Assist with FAT / SAT, commissioning and functional testing and documentation for survey and compliance
  • Work in compliance with shipboard safety rules, PTW systems and risk assessments.
  • Demonstrate strong safety awareness when working on live electrical systems, HV equipment and shipboard environments.
  • Understanding of statutory and regulatory frameworks relevant to decarbonization, including: MARPOL Annex VI and energy efficiency and emissions compliance concepts impacting ship electrical and automation systems.
  • Familiarity with marine electrical standards and technical codes applicable to electrification, battery systems and shore power integration.
  • Understanding of basic piping design principles and class rules to support effective interdisciplinary coordination in retrofit projects (interface awareness, not piping design responsibility).
  • Demonstrates strong safety leadership, especially when working with live electrical systems, batteries, HV equipment and confined shipboard environments.
  • Ability to work under pressure in shipyard and offshore conditions while maintaining safety and quality standards.
  • Highly detail oriented, particularly in control logic, cause & effect, alarm handling and compliance documentation.
  • Continuous improvement mindset, proactive in learning emerging decarbonization technologies and regulatory expectations.
  • Willing and able to travel overseas for vessel attendance, commissioning and surveys.
  • To meet EHS requirement for all concerned and interested parties
  • Any other tasks as and when assigned by manager / management.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILL:
Technical / Professional:
  • Degree or Diploma in Electrical / Instrumentation / Automation Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in marine or offshore EIA / E&I roles (service, commissioning or retrofit).
  • Hands‑on experience with shipboard electrical and automation systems.
  • Knowledge of shipboard safe working practices, PTW systems and risk assessments.
Technological:
  • Competent in Microsoft Office for engineering reports, calculations, compliance documentation and client/class submissions.
  • Hands‑on experience with 2D and 3D electrical design tools (e.g. AutoCAD, EPLAN, Aveva, SmartPlant or equivalent).
  • Comfortable working with as‑built documentation, retrofit constraints, onboard surveys and digital scanning inputs common in decarbonization projects.
  • Good skills and knowledge in Project Management
  • Familiar with classification rules and guidelines such as DNVGL, ABS, LR, CCS, BV, NK General:
People/Relations:
  • Demonstrates professionalism, integrity and cultural awareness when working with owners, yards, OEMs and Principals.
  • Self‑motivated engineer with solid risk awareness and mitigation mindset when executing onboard decarbonization projects.
