Job summary

SsangYong Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd is seeking an experienced Project Director to lead the delivery of a major hospital development in Singapore.

You will provide strategic and operational leadership across the project lifecycle, ensuring compliance with contract requirements, approved programme, budget and quality standards. The role requires 15+ years in construction/project management, with extensive hospital project experience, and a strong ability to manage multidisciplinary teams

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil/Architectural/Structural Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
• Minimum 15 years of construction/project management experience.
• Extensive hospital/healthcare construction project experience.
• Proven track record leading large, complex building projects.
• Strong knowledge of construction management, planning, contract administration, cost control, risk management.
• Experience managing major subcontractors, consultants and multidisciplinary teams.
• Familiarity with Singapore regulations, safety standards and industry practices.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and accomplished Project Director to lead the overall delivery of a major hospital development project in Singapore. The successful candidate will provide strategic and operational leadership across the project lifecycle, ensuring that the project is delivered in accordance with contractual requirements, approved programme, budget, quality standards, safety requirements, and applicable Singapore regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and direction for the hospital project from construction through completion and handover.
• Establish and implement project strategies, execution plans, programmes, and performance objectives.
• Lead the project management, construction, engineering, commercial, procurement, safety, quality, and administrative teams.
• Oversee project progress and ensure delivery in accordance with contractual requirements, approved programme, budget, and quality objectives.
• Develop and monitor project programmes and establish appropriate recovery strategies for delayed or critical activities.
• Manage and coordinate with the Client, consultants, architects, engineers, authorities, subcontractors, suppliers, and other key stakeholders.
• Provide strategic direction on major technical, construction, commercial, contractual, and project-management issues.
• Review and approve major project submissions, construction methodologies, programmes, technical proposals, and project execution plans.
• Monitor project costs, cash flow, variations, claims, procurement, subcontractor performance, and commercial risks.
• Ensure effective management of major subcontract packages and procurement activities.
• Oversee architectural, structural, M&E, specialist systems, testing, commissioning, and handover activities.
• Establish and maintain effective project governance, reporting, risk management, and performance-monitoring systems.
• Identify major project risks and implement appropriate mitigation and contingency measures.
• Ensure compliance with relevant Singapore laws, regulations, statutory requirements, workplace safety requirements, and environmental standards.
• Promote a strong safety and quality culture throughout the project organization.
• Chair or lead project steering, progress, coordination, and management meetings as required.
• Monitor project KPIs and provide regular progress and performance reports to senior management.
• Manage project interfaces and resolve conflicts between different disciplines, contractors, consultants, and stakeholders.
• Lead project completion, testing and commissioning, statutory inspections, handover, and defect-management activities.
• Maintain strong relationships with key project stakeholders and represent the company in senior-level meetings.
• Mentor and develop project management and construction personnel.
• Ensure proper project documentation, contractual records, approvals, and close-out documentation are maintained.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by senior management.

Requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineer, Architectural Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, Building, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 15 years of relevant construction/project management experience, including substantial experience in senior project leadership roles.
• Extensive experience in hospital or healthcare construction projects is required.
• Proven track record in managing large-scale and complex building projects from construction through completion and handover.
• Strong knowledge of construction management, project planning, contract administration, cost control, procurement, and risk management.
• Strong understanding of architectural, structural, M&E, and specialist healthcare systems and their interfaces.
• Experience managing major subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Strong knowledge of Singapore construction practices, statutory requirements, workplace safety regulations, and relevant industry standards.
• Excellent leadership, stakeholder-management, negotiation, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Strong commercial and contractual awareness, with experience managing variations, claims, and project costs.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and project management/scheduling software.
• Professional qualifications or relevant registration with Singapore professional bodies will be an advantage.
• Experience in major hospital projects involving complex M&E systems, medical facilities, specialist systems, testing and commissioning, and handover will be highly advantageous.
• Able to lead a large project team and manage multiple project priorities under demanding deadlines.
