Job summary

Rio Tinto is seeking a Principal Advisor - Market Analysis in Singapore to provide insights into lithium demand and pricing while strengthening the analytical framework of the team. Reporting to the Senior Manager, you will shape market analyses and forecasts, influencing decisions globally.

You will develop demand models, monitor price movements, and explore AI-driven workflow improvements, collaborating with Battery Materials and Economics teams to enhance intel collection and decision support.

Qualifications

• 6 years relevant experience within a commodity focused MNC.
• Experience using AI tools and coding to automate data collection, processing and reporting workflows.
• Experience developing automated data pipelines that integrate multiple data sources and reduce manual effort.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate findings to non-technical stakeholders.
• Exposure to trading environment or a strong industry network would be an added advantage.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English) are essential.
• Candidates with expertise in applying generative AI to decision‑making, market analysis, workflow automation, and productivity enhancement strongly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Developing a deep understanding of the battery supply chain.
• Maintain, develop and validate global and regional demand models.
• Develop and maintain tracking metrics that provide leading indicators of short- to medium-term demand over a 0–3 year horizon, covering key regions, end-use industries and products.
• Contribute to longer term demand discussion and trends, including battery chemistry and intensity of use analysis in various battery types.
• Maintain a view on current market pricing together with a forecast of short-term movements.
• Monitor industry developments and provide analysis on how various events will impact forecast prices.
• Identify opportunities for AI-enabled workflow improvements and translate business requirements into practical solutions.
• Assess opportunities to use AI assistants, agents and automation tools to improve productivity, reporting and analytical workflows.
• Collaborate with broader Battery Materials and Economics teams to increase intel collection.
• Seek leading indicators to predict short term price movements.

About the role
