Job summary

DARA PEOPLE LTD. is seeking a senior protection engineer to lead electrical protection across large-scale power infrastructure in Singapore. You will model power systems, run protection studies and review designs, ensuring high reliability and compliance.

You will configure SIPROTEC 5/DIGSI 5, SEL relays and RTAC equipment, develop SCD files and perform grounding/voltage calculations, while guiding delivery partners and clients.

Qualifications

• Strong background in electrical protection engineering for complex power infrastructure.
• Hands-on experience with ETAP and PSCAD.
• Practical experience with SIPROTEC 5, DIGSI 5 and SEL protection relays.
• Good working knowledge of IEC and ANSI/NEMA standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop power-system models and protection studies using ETAP and PSCAD.
• Configure, programme and test SIPROTEC 5 protection relays using DIGSI 5.
• Configure and integrate SEL protection relays and RTAC equipment such as SEL-3530/3505.
• Develop and maintain SCD files.
• Complete grounding calculations, CT/VT sizing, voltage-drop calculations and related studies.
• Review contractor drawings and technical designs for protection, coordination and quality.
• Identify risks and provide clear engineering direction.
• Drive improvements across reliability, efficiency, cost and performance.
• Support defect rectification, punch-list closure and final electrical inspections.
• Act as senior protection engineering interface between client, consultants, contractors and vendors.
• Maintain engineering standards, specifications, programming documentation and design records.

Job description

Lead protection engineering across complex, mission-critical AC/DC electrical infrastructure in Singapore.

About the role

You’ll provide senior electrical protection engineering expertise across the full project lifecycle — from modelling and protection studies through design review, testing support, defect closure and standards improvement.

The environment covers large-scale electrical infrastructure including switchgear, transformers, energy storage, microgrids and mission-critical facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop power-system models and protection studies using ETAP and PSCAD.
• Configure, programme and test Siemens SIPROTEC 5 protection relays using DIGSI 5.
• Configure and integrate SEL protection relays, including associated RTAC equipment such as SEL-3530/3505.
• Develop and maintain SCD files.
• Complete grounding calculations, CT/VT sizing, voltage-drop calculations and associated electrical studies.
• Review contractor drawings and technical designs for protection, coordination and engineering quality.
• Identify technical, programme and cost risks and provide clear engineering direction.
• Drive improvements across system reliability, efficiency, cost and operational performance.
• Support defect rectification, punch-list closure and final electrical inspections.
• Act as the senior protection engineering interface between the client, consultants, contractors and equipment vendors.
• Maintain engineering standards, specifications, programming documentation and design records.

Requirements

• Strong electrical protection engineering background on complex power infrastructure.
• Hands-on experience with ETAP and PSCAD.
• Practical experience with SIPROTEC 5 / DIGSI 5 and SEL protection relays.
• Good working knowledge of relevant IEC and ANSI/NEMA standards.

Desirable / nice-to-have background

Experience across any combination of:

• Mission-critical or high-availability facilities.
• Switchgear and transformer systems.
• Battery energy storage systems.
• Microgrids.
• Large-scale AC and DC electrical infrastructure.
• IEC 61850 environments and SCD-file management.
• Protection design assurance, testing or commissioning.
• Client-side, consultancy, EPC or OEM environments.

This is a senior, technically demanding position where you’ll be expected to challenge protection designs, resolve complex engineering issues and give clear direction to delivery partners.

Experience working across consultants, EPCs, OEMs, contractors and client-side engineering teams would translate particularly well.

Strong profiles may currently be working as a Protection Lead, Senior Protection Engineer, Principal Protection Engineer, Power Systems Protection Engineer, Electrical Protection Engineer or Lead Protection Engineer.

Relevant backgrounds could include mission-critical infrastructure, utilities, substations, power generation, industrial power, data-centre infrastructure, electrical OEMs, EPCs or specialist power-system consultancies.

Particularly relevant environments include Siemens, SEL, switchgear/transformer manufacturers, protection specialists and major electrical engineering consultancies.
