Job summary

AMPHENOL FCI CONNECTORS SINGAPORE PTE. LTD. is seeking a Plating Production & Process Engineer responsible for electroplating process development, production support and CI initiatives to meet targets.

You will lead technicians to achieve schedules, optimize processes, troubleshoot issues, and implement cost-reduction activities while maintaining safety and ISO compliance. The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in chemical/mechanical/related and at least two years of reel-to-reel electroplating

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, or mechanical engineering.
• At least two years of reel-to-reel electroplating experience.
• Solid knowledge of electroplating technologies and manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge of PFMEA and chemical safety practices.
• Ability to develop and optimise products, processes and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Lead Plating Technicians and Operators to meet daily production schedules, quality standards and departmental objectives.
• Develop, optimise and continuously improve electroplating processes and equipment capabilities to enhance productivity, yield and product quality.
• Troubleshoot and resolve plating process, chemical, equipment and product-quality issues.
• Lead cost-reduction initiatives through process optimisation, waste reduction and other continuous-improvement activities.
• Plan, coordinate and monitor preventive maintenance programmes for plating equipment and production lines.
• Support Lean PACE initiatives and new product introduction projects.
• Conduct sample plating trials, prepare plated samples and submit First Article (FA) reports.

Job description

The Role

The Plating Production & Process Engineer is responsible for electroplating process development, production support and continuous improvement for new and existing products.

The role will lead plating manufacturing activities to achieve production targets, product quality, cost and departmental objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead Plating Technicians and Operators to meet daily production schedules, quality standards and departmental objectives.
• Develop, optimise and continuously improve electroplating processes and equipment capabilities to enhance productivity, yield and product quality.
• Troubleshoot and resolve plating process, chemical, equipment and product-quality issues.
• Lead cost-reduction initiatives through process optimisation, waste reduction and other continuous-improvement activities.
• Plan, coordinate and monitor preventive maintenance programmes for plating equipment and production lines.
• Support Lean PACE initiatives and new product introduction projects.
• Conduct sample plating trials, prepare plated samples and submit First Article (FA) reports.
• Prepare mill-cost calculations and other process-related cost analyses.
• Develop and implement new electroplating processes and products within the required timeline.
• Work closely with Process Development Engineers on new product and process requirements.
• Develop and maintain manufacturing methods, procedures and systems in compliance with ISO standards and other applicable requirements.
• Maintain accurate manufacturing and production data in the MFG/PRO system.
• Manage the purchase and inventory of spare parts and other items required for manufacturing activities.
• Monitor plating-line utilisation, spare-parts consumption and related operating costs.
• Liaise with the Stamping and Assembly departments to coordinate manufacturing activities and resolve operational issues.
• Authorise the stoppage of plating production lines when process- or quality-related issues arise.
• Ensure safe handling, storage and use of chemicals, and provide appropriate training to relevant employees.
• Perform other production- and process-engineering duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent discipline.
• At least two years of relevant experience in reel-to-reel electroplating.
• Sound knowledge of electroplating technologies and manufacturing processes, including both chemical and mechanical aspects.
• Knowledge of Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA).
• Good understanding of chemical safety, chemical handling and chemical analysis.
• Hands-on ability to develop and optimise products, processes and equipment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate and resolve manufacturing issues.
• Able to plan and manage projects through to completion with minimal supervision.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with customers, engineers, manufacturing teams and external parties.
• Able to train employees in chemical handling, process controls and chemical-analysis methods.
• Self-motivated, results-oriented and able to lead a team in achieving production and departmental objectives.
• Experience with MFG/PRO or a similar manufacturing ERP system would be an added advantage.
