Job summary

Woodlands Health in Singapore seeks a Pathologists' Assistant to perform grossing, description and sampling of tissue specimens for pathologic diagnosis. The role supports pathologists and medical technologists throughout the test process in Anatomic Pathology.

The successful candidate will perform specimen sampling for various lab tests, handle tissue for intra-operative diagnoses under supervision, and participate in multidisciplinary meetings and teaching activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biomedical science or equivalent required.
• Master's degree in biomedical science or equivalent preferred or demonstrated.
• Diploma with relevant experience and competency considered acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Perform grossing (macroscopic examination, description and sampling) of tissue specimens and photograph specimens and slides as needed.
• Perform sampling of tissue specimens for other laboratory tests to aid in diagnosis.
• Sample fresh tissue for tissue repositories or research projects under supervision.
• Sample tissue specimens for intra-operative diagnosis under supervision.
• Obtain relevant clinical information from patient history and investigations.
• Ensure grossing complies with protocols, accreditation standards and regulatory requirements; ensure descriptions and measurements are accurate.
• Provide slides, images and clinical information for multidisciplinary meetings prior to meetings.
• Provide training, monitoring and competency assessment of staff in grossing and related duties.
• Assist with specimen reception, order entry and other laboratory duties as assigned.
• Maintain professional conduct and adhere to laws, hospital procedures and policies.
• Contribute to continuing medical education and quality improvement programmes.

Education

Bachelor's degree in biomedical science
