Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in biomedical science or equivalent.
• Diploma with relevant experience and competency required.
• Minimum two years in a clinical laboratory; healthcare setting accredited.

Responsibilities

• Perform grossing (macroscopic examination, description and sampling) of tissue specimens and photography of specimens and slides.
• Perform sampling of tissue specimens for other laboratory tests to aid diagnosis.
• Sample fresh tissue for tissue repository or research under supervision.
• Sample tissue for intra-operative diagnosis under supervision.
• Obtain relevant clinical history for cases.
• Ensure grossing adheres to protocols, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements; ensure accuracy of descriptions and measurements.
• Provide material (slides, images, information) for multidisciplinary meetings.
• Provide training, monitoring and competency assessments for staff in grossing; participate in teaching.
• Perform specimen reception, order entry and other duties as assigned.

Education

Bachelor's degree in biomedical science or equivalent

Master's degree in biomedical science or equivalent

Diploma with relevant experience and competency

Minimum of two years of working in a clinical laboratory experience, healthcare setting certified by recognised accreditation body
