Job summary

Sembcorp Utilities is hiring an Operations Engineer based at Changi NEWater in Singapore. The role involves monitoring water treatment processes, supervising technicians, and ensuring safe, compliant operations.

You will work closely with maintenance to keep equipment in optimal condition and support plant performance improvements. The ideal candidate has a chemical/environmental engineering background with at least 2 years of water/wastewater experience, strong teamwork, and leadership

Qualifications

• Degree/Diploma in Chemical or Environmental Engineering.
• Minimum 2 years operation experience in Water/Wastewater treatment.
• Organized and detail-oriented.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
• Independent with initiatives, resourceful and positive attitude.
• Possess good leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Monitor water treatment plant process parameters, manage plant logistics and coordinate with maintenance to ensure operability.
• Supervise a team of technicians to ensure effective plant performance.
• Review and implement SOPs, MSRAs, shift reports and plant operating performance.
• Enforce safety in the water plant by inspecting safety equipment and ensuring compliance with GHSSE and PTW requirements.
• Support decentralised plant operation troubleshooting, commissioning and support.
• Assist Plant Manager and Ops lead in developing and implementing an AOP for customers.
• Potential involvement in CERT or SIC as part of emergency response training.
• Serve as a key operational support resource, responding to plant upsets and ensuring safe, reliable operations.
• Prepare and maintain documentation/reports per Group standards.
• Adjust plant parameters/chemical dosing after consultation with Operation Lead and Performance Excellence Lead.
• Plan overtime and leave coverage for technicians.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

• Monitoring water treatment plant process parameters, managing plant logistics (including chemical deliveries) and working with maintenance to ensure plant equipment is maintained to assure operability
• Supervise a team of technicians to ensure effective performance of the plant
• Review and implement SOPs, MSRAs, shift reports, and plant operating performance
• Enforce safety in the Water plant by ensuring safety equipment are inspected regularly by the shift technicians, and all jobs have been carried out in accordance with GHSSE and regulatory requirement, including PTW system
• Support Decentralised plant operation troubleshooting, commissioning, and support
• Support Plant Manager and Ops lead in developing and implementing AOP for customers
• Successful candidate can be appointed as part of the Company Emergency Response Team (CERT) or SIC (Dy-Site incident Controller) (training will be provided)
• Serve as a key operational support resource, responding effectively to plant upsets and ensuring safe, reliable operations
• Prepare and maintain documentation/reports as per Group standards
• Altering plant process parameters / chemical dosing after consultation with Operation Lead and Performance Excellence Lead
• Plan for overtime and leave coverage for technicians

Qualifications & Experience

• Degree/Diploma in Chemical engineering / Environmental engineering
• Minimum 2 years operation experience in Water / Wastewater treatment plant is advantageous
• Organized and detail-oriented
• Good team player and able to deliver results within tight deadlines
• Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
• Proactive in keeping up with new technologies and looking for solutions to optimize plant operations
• Independent with initiatives, resourceful and positive attitude.
• Possess good leadership skills
