Job summary

FASTSTREAM RECRUITMENT PTE. LTD. is seeking a Network Engineer to install, configure, commission and troubleshoot network and connectivity systems onboard vessels and at customer sites.

The role involves hands-on field work, site surveys and regional travel across Asia to support SATCOM/VSAT and IT/OT integration. The candidate should have 3–6 years in network or field service engineering, strong TCP/IP, VLAN, routing/switching, and experience with satellite communications.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Network Engineering, IT, Telecommunications, Electronics, or related field.
• 3–6 years of relevant network or field service engineering experience, preferably in maritime or satellite environments.
• Hands-on experience installing, configuring and troubleshooting network equipment.
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, LAN/WAN, firewalls, and Wi‑Fi.
• Experience with SATCOM, VSAT, LEO connectivity or RF systems is advantageous.
• Maritime experience onboard vessels or in shipyards is desirable.
• Ability to read network diagrams and technical documentation.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Able to work independently in field environments.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure and commission network and connectivity equipment onboard vessels and at customer sites.
• Carry out hands-on installation, testing and troubleshooting of routers, switches, firewalls, Wi-Fi/access points, network devices and related infrastructure.
• Support installation and commissioning of SATCOM/VSAT and LEO connectivity systems.
• Configure and troubleshoot LAN/WAN networks, VLANs, IP addressing, routing and network connectivity.
• Assist with integration between satellite communication systems and vessel IT/OT networks.
• Conduct site surveys and assess network infrastructure requirements prior to installation.
• Perform system testing, fault diagnosis and preventive maintenance.
• Troubleshoot network, connectivity, hardware and configuration issues both remotely and on-site.
• Work onboard vessels, at shipyards, ports and customer premises to complete installation and service activities.
• Liaise with customers, vessel crew, service partners and internal technical teams to resolve technical issues.
• Maintain accurate installation, configuration, service and testing documentation.
• Provide technical reports following installation, commissioning and troubleshooting activities.
• Support the Network Operations team with remote monitoring, diagnostics and escalation of network incidents.
• Assist with technical projects, equipment upgrades and system integration.
• Provide technical input to the sales and solutions teams where required.
• Travel regionally across Asia for vessel attendance, installations and customer support.

Job description

Our client is a global provider of satellite communications, managed connectivity and network solutions supporting maritime and other mission-critical operations.

As part of the Singapore technical team, the Network Engineer will be responsible for the installation, configuration, commissioning, troubleshooting and maintenance of network and connectivity systems, including equipment deployed onboard vessels and at customer sites.

This is a hands-on field engineering position requiring regular site, shipyard and vessel attendance, as well as regional travel when required.

Requirements

• Diploma or Degree in Network Engineering, Information Technology, Telecommunications, Electronics, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 3-6 years of relevant network or field service engineering experience, preferably within maritime, telecommunications, satellite communications or industrial environments.
• Proven hands-on experience installing, configuring and troubleshooting network equipment.
• Good knowledge of: TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6, VLANs, Routing and switching, LAN/WAN, Firewalls, Wi-Fi/network infrastructure, Network troubleshooting and diagnostics.
• Experience with SATCOM, VSAT, LEO connectivity or RF systems would be advantageous.
• Maritime experience, particularly working onboard vessels or in shipyards, would be highly desirable.
• Experience with marine communications, NAVCOM or vessel IT systems would be an advantage.
• Ability to read network diagrams, equipment specifications and technical documentation.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Able to work independently in a hands-on field environment.
• Comfortable working onboard vessels, at ports and shipyards.
• Willingness to travel regionally and work outside normal office hours when operational requirements arise.
• Good command of written and spoken English.
