Job summary

NTU Singapore's Earth Observatory of Singapore invites applications for a Research Assistant in natural hazards. You will collect and analyse data, support simulations, and contribute to technical reports for publication.

The role collaborates with the InVEST project team on regional tectonics, volcanoes, and cascading hazards in Southeast Asia. A BSc in geography, computer science, physics, or earth/environmental science is required, with interest in hazards.

The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) is a University Research Institute at Nanyang Technological University Singapore that conducts fundamental research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and climate change in and around Southeast Asia, towards safer and more sustainable societies. EOS are looking for a Research Assistant in the areas of natural hazards.

The candidate will work under the supervision of Susanna Jenkins and will collaborate with researchers from the ‘Integrating Volcano and Earthquake Science and Technology (InVEST) in Southeast Asia’ project, a 5-year project that aims to provide a holistic understanding of regional tectonics, volcanoes, the linkages between the two, and their cascading hazards and impacts in Singapore and Southeast Asia.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• BSc in relevant area, e.g. geography, computer science, physics, earth/environmental science
• Experience with coding and GIS preferred
• An interest in natural hazards and their impacts.
• A quantitative mindset
