Job summary

National University Hospital (Singapore) Pte Ltd is seeking a Laboratory Technologist to perform and oversee diagnostic laboratory procedures. You will handle specimen reception, operate the LIS, and ensure results are accurate and reported promptly.

The role requires a BSc or equivalent in Medical Laboratory Science with 1–2 years of clinical lab experience and strong laboratory skills. You will work on site within NUHS laboratories, contributing to quality control and safety compliance.

• Preferably 1–2 years Clinical Laboratory experience and good or excellent performance.
• Good laboratory skills.

Responsibilities

• Participate in and supervise the reception of laboratory specimens and reject unsuitable ones.
• Operate the Laboratory Information System for order entry, result entry, collation and certification, and result queries.
• Perform procedures in accordance with laboratory protocols and report critical values to the appropriate personnel.
• Resolve queries from customers and report adverse incidents to the supervisor.
• Carry out quality control procedures, record results, and take corrective action when indicated.
• Undertake basic maintenance of instruments and troubleshoot malfunctions as needed.
• Keep inventory and comply with safety, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
• Contribute to staff rostering, shift duties, and training of trainees and new staff.

Overview

To perform and interpret diagnostic procedures and undertake related laboratory activities in order to provide quality laboratory service to our customers, both internal and external.

Job Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the following:

• Participate in and, when necessary, supervise the reception of laboratory specimens and rejection of those that are unsuitable for analysis.
• Operate the Laboratory Information System to perform functions such as order entry, result entry, result collation & certification and result query.
• Perform all procedures in accordance with laboratory protocols.
• Ensure that “critical values” are reported to appropriate personnel.
• Resolve queries from customers.
• Report adverse incidents to the supervisor.
• Perform, record and interpret results of quality control procedures and take corrective action where indicated.
• Undertake simple preventative maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and perform simple troubleshooting in the event of malfunction.
• Comply with laboratory inventory management procedures.
• Keep current with new instrumentation, techniques and procedures by attending/participating in appropriate workshops, seminars and in-service education classes.
• Conduct of in-service education and continuing education classes.
• Assist with planning of staff rosters as required.
• Perform shift duties as required.
• Coach trainees and new staff in laboratory procedure.
• Carry out the instruction(s) of senior staff with regard to work procedures and duties.
• To conduct internal audit.
• Comply with good laboratory practice as set out by the Laboratory Accreditation Programme of the College of American Pathologists and Singapore regulatory agencies such as the Medical Audit & Accreditation Unit.
• Ensure compliance with all requirement of the Laboratory Safety Manual.
• Comply with DLM Workplace Etiquette in line with NUHS Core Values.
• Assist with the evaluation of new laboratory test methodologies.
• Undertake back-up procedures in the event of emergencies such as loss of electrical power and information system crash.
• Participate in basic laboratory administrative work such as filling, processing of deliveries orders and invoices.
• Assist with drafting and updating of laboratory protocols when required.
• Participate and contribute to project teams as required.
• Cover duties of Senior Medical Technologist when required.
• Any other duties as assigned by supervisor
