Job summary

Qantas Airways is seeking a Materials Specialist to coordinate end-to-end logistics for Heavy Maintenance projects. You will set up vendor relationships, ensure availability of spares, and support MRO activities with efficient materials strategies.

You will lead cross-functional teams, manage AOG and routine requisitions, and continually improve freight and material processes to optimize spend and service levels across MRO facilities.

Qualifications

• Five years of procurement or logistics experience, preferably in an operational aviation environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of aircraft maintenance materials and MIS.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience leading a team and managing stakeholder relationships.
• Ability to develop materials strategies for External MRO support.
• Experience handling AOG, CRITICAL and ROUTINE requisitions.
• Ability to monitor part movements and minimize deferrals.

Responsibilities

• MRO Materials supply management to ensure availability for Heavy Maintenance and coordination with Cross-Functional Teams.
• Manage Heavy Maintenance contractual strategy for materials and freight; provide updates to stakeholders and Engineering management.
• Process AOG, CRITICAL and ROUTINE requisitions to satisfy business requirements.
• Monitor part movements to ensure availability for planned maintenance and defect rectification.
• Minimise deferrals out of Heavy Maintenance.
• Mailbox management of purchasing, repairs and logistics requirements.
• Freight cost control and supplier management through Vendor Management Meetings with KPI reviews.
• Review current Materials and Freight cost and MIN/MAX levels; liaise with SCCM for alternative freight options.
• Research stock holdings to ensure spares are located at MRO facilities to support planned work.
• Develop database for C check Materials & Logistics activities.
• Provide adequate reporting of Heavy Maintenance spend related to logistics and materials to Engineering Senior management.
• Analyse and compare Heavy Maintenance freight cost per event.

Job description

The function of the Material Specialist is to ensure materials are made available and meets Heavy Maintenance utilisation.

Material Specialist will be responsible for the end-to-end logistics coordination applied to individual projects, setting up professional relationships with vendors, and ensuring that the appropriate spares are available at MRO facilities to support Heavy Maintenance activities.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

MRO Materials supply management

• Understand business needs within their requirement and contribute to the development of appropriate materials strategy related to External MRO support in order to ensure value for money, high levels of service and compliance with procedures and professional best practice.

• Manage executed Heavy Maintenance contractual strategy with regards to materials and freight through various streams. Work closely with Cross-Functional Teams, providing regular updates to the stakeholders and Engineering senior management.

• Action AOG, CRITICAL and ROUTINE requisitions to satisfy business requirements

• Monitor part movements to ensure availability for planned maintenance and defect rectification within Heavy Maintenance environment

• Minimise deferrals out of Heavy Maintenance

• Mailbox management of purchasing, repairs and logistics requirements

MRO Materials and Logistics Support Program Continuous Improvement

• Freight cost control and supplier management through a process of Vendor Management Meetings (supplier Performance Meetings) with correlating vendor KPIs.

• Review all current Materials and Freight cost and MIN/MAX levels relating to Heavy Maintenance operations and ensure that the best outcome is being achieved. Where required liaise with SCCM team and look to alternate options of Freight shipment to ensure best outcome for the business is achieved

• Research and analysis of stock holdings to ensure appropriate spares are located at MRO facility in order to support planned work.

MRO Logistics and Materials Reporting

• Develop database for C check Materials & Logistics activities

• Provide adequate reporting of Heavy Maintenance spend related to logistics and materials to Engineering Senior management

• Analyse and compare Heavy Maintenance freight cost per event

To be considered, we are seeking the following key attributes:

• A minimum of five years of procurement (purchasing or repairs) or logistics experience, preferably in an operational environment

• Effective written and verbal communication

• An understanding of aircraft maintenance materials

• A working knowledge of MIS and Microsoft Office applications

• 5 Years relevant experience in Aviation Industry.

• Experience at a high capacity passenger transport operator

• Experienced team leader and people manager
