Job description

To strengthen our Marine Department we are looking for a motivated Marine Superintendent to join the team.

Responsibilities
  • Providing required assistance to the Marine Manager (as applicable).
  • Providing such assistance to the Masters and crews of the Company vessels as they require to operate their vessels to the standard established by the Company and in compliance with the international rules and regulations;
  • Being fully conversant with the Company’s Management System;
  • Implementing effectively the Company’s Management System;
  • Contributing to the development of new or the amendment of existing procedures;
  • Promoting and supporting efforts for continual improvement;
  • Ensuring that the Company Management System, policies, standards and procedures are effectively implemented on the vessels allocated to him;
  • Ensuring that the Company vessels are performing to the customers’ satisfaction and are ready for third party inspections at any time.
  • Attending the vessels and assisting during such inspections where desirable;
  • Conducting regular marine visits and ensuring that issues raised during such visits are followed up and dealt with as quickly as possible, where required in conjunction with other departments;
  • Conducting internal audits in accordance with respective procedures;
  • Encouraging a robust quality, safety, health and security culture as well as environmental awareness and energy efficiency within the fleet;
  • Supporting the Masters in applying navigational practices and bridge procedures in line with regulatory and Company policies, ensuring high standards of navigation to maintain the quality, safety and health of vessels, crews and cargoes, and the protection of the environment and the energy efficiency;
  • Supporting the Masters in applying the highest standards of cargo operations planning, monitoring and execution to maintain the quality, safety and health of vessels, their crews, and the protection of the environment and energy efficiency;
  • Supporting the office employees in navigation and cargo handling matters;
  • Identifying training needs during marine visits and providing such training where practical;
  • Maintaining familiarity with charter parties and ensuring that Masters are aware of key points;
  • Ensuring the vessels are provided with all required navigation charts and nautical publications;
  • Following up on the observations issued during third party inspections, maintaining respective records in CAPE database;
  • Providing assistance to the Vetting Team Leader to enable him to respond to the customers as and when required;
  • Monitoring Terminal Satisfaction Reports and Letters of Protest making sure complaints are timely investigated, corrective and preventive actions applied as required, maintaining records in CAPE database and keeping the Marine Manager (as applicable) updated in due course;
  • Monitoring reporting fromtheshipsandkeepingrequiredcontrolonthevessels performance;
  • Conducting briefings as and when instructed by the Marine Manager (as applicable).
  • Conducting interviews of prospective candidates for promotion to Master or Chief Officer, or of new entrants to the company for these positions;
  • Conducting investigations of accidents / incidents;
  • Working on projects or tasks as assigned by the Marine Manager.
Qualifications
  • Seagoing experience in a command position of not less than two years;
  • Good working knowledge of international rules and regulations and of industry guidelines and recommendations;
  • Good operational knowledge of the types of ships for which the Marine Superintendent is responsible;
  • Training, experience and skills in internal auditing;
  • Training, experience and skills in incident investigation;
  • Training, experience and skills in risk management;
  • Experiences and skills in marine inspections;
  • Good communication skills as well as the ability to work within a team;
  • Good command of the English language.
